Re: post-braces advice

Wear your retainer for as long as you want to keep your teeth straight. Basically for the rest of your life. I was told not to use toothpaste on my retainer. My retainer is the clear InvisAlign type. I use a denture soak twice a week. I also bought a baby toothbrush to get all the nooks and crannies...

Re: newbie, 32 & still unsure about going ahead with braces.

Just go for it!! You will not regret it. I started my journey at the tender age of 50 and 14 months later the braces came off. I was told 24 months treatment time. I had ceramic on top and metal on bottom. I wore my rubber bands as directed. I invested in a Water Pik and had teeth cleaning every 3 m...

Re: First week in braces weirdness

You will be surprised that you chew but mostly the food gets swallowed whole. I could not bite with my front teeth for at least 6 months. My teeth were senitive. It does get better.
The more you eat the better you will become use to what you can and can not chew.

Keep your chin up.

Re: Essix: How many hours?

My braces are schedule to be removed next week. The instructions that I received regarding the Essix retainers were to wear them only 8-12 only. Mostly at night. If the retainer is worn more than 12 hours, it could cause an open bite. I would double check with your orthodontist to verify how to wear...

Re: August Debrace Club!

I will be getting my braces off Aug. 9th at 8am. I can not wait. My total treatment will be 14 month. I was told 18 months. I have told a handful of people that my braces will be coming off. I'm scared that the Orthodontist will change her mind and will delay the removal. My retainer will be Essix a...

Re: Last Months in Braces... Your experiences??

My deband date is Aug 9th. I was not prepared for that date because, my treatment will be only 14 months! I'm scared that the Orthodontist will change her mind and tell me that I need more time in braces. That will be a total bummer. I've been in elastic for the past 10 months of the last 14. I gues...

Re: Ceramic or Metal?

Congrats on getting braces. I have ceramics on top and metal on bottom. I got my braces on May 2010. Ceramics are a little bit bulker than the metal. If I had my choice I would have gone all metal. Ceramics are still noticable. They are not "as" noticeable in pictures. I have not had any p...

Re: Freshly debraced !!!

JulieFL: My estimated treatment time is/was 18 months. I continue to get my teeth cleaned every 3 months - faithfully - I brush and floss every night. Stay away from forbidden foods. I have ceramics on top and have not had a bracket break. I guess that is the reason for my teeth are coming along ahe...

Re: Freshly debraced !!!

Congrats :jump:

I'm also looking at getting debraced after 15 months of treatment. Which will be sometime in August. Can't wait. At the moment, my teeth look good, but there is one area that has a "black triangle". Not sure what I'm going to do about that.

Anyone have suggestions??

Re: 6 months in thith damn retainer......REALLY?!....6 MONTH

Gary....Are you serious?? You had a relapse within 4 hours??? +\+ I'm courious. I will be in retainers before the end of the summer and I'm sure that there will be occasions that I would not wear my retainer. But if it will cause a relapse, I would have to re-think the occasions. Keep us posted. Gen...

Re: How often do you call your ortho/ortho office?

Call your Ortho as often has you need to. You are paying them for a service and you need to get that service.

I've had my braces on since May 2010. I've called my Ortho a couple of time and they have been very nice. :-#)

Re: Choice: ceramic uppers or metal? What did you choose why

I have ceramics on top and metal on the bottom. If I had to do it all over again, I would have done all metal. In my opinion, ceramics are good if you take a lot of pictures. since you can't see them. Ceramics are bigger and took quite a while to get use to them. I've had my braces on sin...

Re: Second day in braces

Welcome and Good Luck. I also waited a long time to get my braces. As a matter of fact, I'm 50 years old. Believe me it does get better. I hear you about scrambled eggs hurting. Most of the time, I swallow my food whole. I've got my braces on in May 2010. I've been through cancer sores, s...

Re: when do visits get easier?

Visits do get tolerable as time goes by.. I've been braced since May 2010 and each visit gets a little easier. My teeth do get sensitive, but it goes away within a couple of days.

Hang in there. It does get easier.
