Re: question based on everyones experience
I had my braces on for 15 months before I had surgery, and even then only because I was pushing the ortho to let me do it, because it worked better with my schedule. I should have 6-8 months now until I'm completely done. So I don't think 3 years is too unreasonable.

Re: April 2011 surgery buddies!!!!!
LAJaw - I'm with you on that one. Whenever anyone asks, I have to say it is still too early to tell if I'm happy with it and glad I did it. For me, I still have some swelling in my cheeks that could take a couple of months, and it is worse on one side so whenver I smile it is lop-sided. My thoughts ...

Re: April 2011 surgery buddies!!!!!
I'm happy so far with the way my smile looks, still getting used to the new bite and how to eat. I don't feel like all my teeth quite close properly, so it's hard still to chew things like spaghetti or thin pieces of food. I'm hoping the ortho fixes that all up. I forgot to ask them how much longer ...

Re: April 2011 surgery buddies!!!!!
Six weeks for me this week, so thought I'd post an update. My surgeon is basically done with me, said to just keep on with it, working up on foods as I feel like it. He said there's nothing I can hurt, it's all just muscle pain if I have any. Also just learning how to work food around with my new bi...

Re: Bristol Palin's corrective jaw surgery
Even if she did have corrective jaw surgery, she obviously had genioplasty which for her had to just be cosmetic.
I agree with the last post, Why are "celebrities" so secretive about having things done!

Re: April 2011 surgery buddies!!!!!
Minor freak out today! This morning, I noticed that one of my front teeth had shifted and was crooked and now a little crossing the other front tooth! It had been perfectly straight before. I assumed the bands were pulling it out of place, so I took the front 2 bands off and sure enough the tooth we...

Re: April 2011 surgery buddies!!!!!
I will be 4 weeks post-op on Wednesday, and I got my splint out today! It was 2 weeks early. I had broken some small piece of it, so the doc decided to just take it out. He said I was healing very well and am about 50% of where I want to be in regards to opening my mouth. It feels very strange witho...

Re: Sleeping Post-Op
I had the same problem, most times it felt like I was not very refreshed when I woke up in the morning. It was probably closer to 3 weeks post-op that I felt like I'd had a good nights' sleep.

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES
Question for the March buddies (my April buddies are not as far along as I am). Did you ever feel as if your nasal congestion moved into your ears?
My nasal congestion is pretty much gone, but my ears feel very stopped up and almost painful at times.

Re: April 2011 surgery buddies!!!!!
LAJaw - glad you are feeling better! I am totally jealous that you got de-banded after week 1, but I guess my IVRO procedure (lower jaw was completely separated and then put in the proper position, so I understand) dictates that I stay in bands for a while! On the plus side for me, I just talked to ...

Re: How long did you take off work for recovery?
I had a 4-piece Lefort I and IVRO procedure. I will be going back to work full-time about week 4, but at week 2 I started working 1/2 days from home (thank goodness for flexibility at my workplace!). I could probably do full days right now (week 3), but will take the 1/2 days and continue to recover.

Re: April 2011 surgery buddies!!!!!
Question - I had a Lefort 1 and IVRO. I see some folks refer to 2-peice or 3 peice Lefort procedures. What makes the difference? I had 4 cuts in my upper jaw with 4 plates put in, does that make it a 4-piece Lefort I?
