Re: Chicagoland surgeons

I went to the University of Iowa in Iowa City and have nothing but good things to say about my doctors there. That would be about 3 1/2 hours for you, but totally worth it.

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES

Rick, Wow, impressive! Being back at work in one week - I can't imagine. I know I don't feel up to snuff because I am not a sitter. The fact I need to sit/feel like sitting around makes me realize that I am not ready to go back. It is frustrating about how slowly my recovery has went. Three weeks a...

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES

Rick - I'm totally with you on that one. I went back to work after a week because I was going nuts sitting at home and I think it was the best thing for me. I included a few walks at lunchtime and started walking to and from work after a few days (half an hour each way). And I think it really helpe...

Odd, because I was instructed to take ibuprofen every 6-8 hours for pain and inflamation.

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES

So how is work going? I can't imagine going back at this point, even though my energy levels feel managable. How do you deal with all the people asking you what happenned?! Work is going well; I don't normally bring my lunch but I had to bite the bullet (odd pun given the situation), and buy a lunc...

Re: Iron Supplement

I didn't nor was it even mentioned. The only thing I took pre-surgery was methedol (or something like that) which was a steroid to keep the swelling down. I do know that iron does help in the production of red blood cells; I also read that is can help fight off any surgical infection, but you should...

Re: Protein supplements

I am just doing the Boost powder mix which is working great for me. I drink about 3-4 of them a day and it has helped curb any weight/muscle loss from what I can tell. Doesn't taste too bad either; sometimes I blend in a banana and some Hershey's chocolate syrup. I hear some people do peanut butter,...

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES

I think part of the problem was that I always thought that I had a huge lower jaw, when in fact in turns out that it's actually my upper jaw that is "severely deficient", according to the surgeon. Now when I look at old pics of myself I can immediately see how my upper jaw looks recessed ...

Re: How Many Pre-Surgical Consults Did You Go Through?

I did two consults. The first consult though I would need both an upper and lower and I wasn't too sure about him when he said he had only done for of them the previous year; this (and insurance) are the reasons I went to consult number two. Consult number two was actually with a doctor at Universit...

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES

I only took profiles on my phone; my wife has the rest on her camera. For those of you that haven't read any other posts, this is what I had done. July 1997, braced December 2008, braced (2nd time) March 31st, 2011 - Lefort 1 5.5 mm advancement with cheek implants (bottom jaw untouched) As you can s...

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES

I am only 7 days post op now, but I had a few rough days because I wasn't taking in enough water and calories. Since then I started making myself drink water even if I wasn't thirsty and I have now been eating more even though it is such a hassle. Half of my day is spent eating and rinsing my mouth ...

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES

I read somewhere that 50% or more of people that have oral surgery are 25 or older. I probably read it on the Internet and everything on the Internet is true, right? :P The last two days for me I have noticed an incision in the middle of my upper lip that has a stitch sticking out of it, and it keep...

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES

[quote="bracedfaced"][quote="rtxtavi02"]I guess I just fit in the March 2011 Buddies category because I had my surgery on March 31st. I had Lefort 1, my upper jaw was moved 5.5 mm forward (I had a very strong lower jaw). I also had cheek (malar) implants and bone grafting. This i...

Re: How long did you take off work for recovery?

I feel pretty good, when I woke up from surgery I wasn't in a splint and I wasn't banded or wired shut like I have seen most people are. My doctor said he felt it wasn't necessary. There isn't much pain because I have absolutely no feeling in my upper lip and cheeks. I do have some discomfort due to...

Re: How long did you take off work for recovery?

I only have a week off, :\ I do, however, work a desk job and I don't do a whole lot of talking throughout the day. I had surgery on March 31st and I am supposed to be back at work on April 11th.
