Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES
Wahoo, saw the surgeon for a check up and he said I could eat whatever felt 'comfortable'. I have been eating everything in sight! Look out! Rick Really? Even biting into a pizza? What about nuts?! Tomorrow is exactly 6 weeks for me and I have an appointment with the oral surgeon. He had originally...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!
Hey all, just got back from the hospital and really sore. My nose is clogged with blood (from the turbinectomy) and my face is swollen. Can't wait for these first few terrible days to be over. Also, my bite doesn't feel right. When my surgeon came in this morning he said that when the surgery was d...

Congrats on being through the hard part (surgery). I am 3 weeks post op and only waiting for swelling in my lips and cheeks to go away. I just can't wait to eat solids again! You will know what I mean even more by week 3; the soup just isn't cutting it!

Re: What day for solid food?
I was doing mashed potatoes the second week, but I only had lefort 1 (1 piece), and I was not wired shut. I have progressed to also mashing ground beef into the potatoes, yummy! Surgeon said that was fine as long as I wasn't chewing in any way. I can also do that with mashed macaroni since I hate bl...

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES
So I had my surgical hooks removed by my orthodontist on Thursday and he just put rubber bands on my braces (no adjustments yet), but I noticed Saturday morning that my midline, which was perfect post surgery, has moved about a mm or 2. Since I am only about 2.5 weeks post op, it isn't possible tha...

Re: Zip n Squeeze Now Available at DentaKit.com
Thanks guys! I was thinking about buying a syringe and the squeeze bottle, just to be on the safe side, because they are cheap enough. I was also thinking about buying the headwrap with gel packs. Anyone use them and find them useful? Or can I assume I will be sent home from the hospital with one? ...

Re: February 2011 Buddies!!!
I see my dentist, orthodontist, and oral surgeon next week. I definitely need to bug my ortho and see how much longer I need to wear these braces! Have any of you guys found out approximately how many more months of braces treatment you'll be needing? I am only 2.5 weeks post op, but my ortho last ...

Re: Chicagoland surgeons
Lefort 1 with a 5.5 mm advancement and cheek implants. Great experience and some of the best surgeons you will find. Plus my insurance played nice because it is an educational institution. It was only an hour from where I am located, but I would have been willing to drive much further for the same e...

Re: Help... I feel like an idiot?
I ended up going with a different surgeon due to insurance, and while my orthodontist was a little bothered at first, he got over it. He was really happy with the outcome in the end and excited for me as I am waiting to continue post-surgery touch ups with my braces.

Re: How Many Pre-Surgical Consults Did You Go Through?
Thanks for all of the replies. One of the surgeons that I visited thought that 3 opinions was "a lot", so I figured I'd ask. I'll continue on to my 3rd consultation :D. Yea, I think 2 consults is pretty normal, but if you haven't had a good feeling about either of the first 2, why not a 3...

Re: April 2011 surgery buddies!!!!!
I am doing 10x better than I was a few days ago! I am at Day 7 post-surgery (I was in the OR at this time last week). I get my wires off next Tuesday!!! My husband thought it was pretty funny when the receptionist at the surgeon's office asked "do you want morning or afternoon" I was very...

Re: Cost of surgery?
My insurance handled it a bit differently. My dental covered the oral surgeon fees and cheek implants (roughly $11,000) and my medical covered the hospital stay (roughly $20,000). I am still getting all of the bills in the mail and what not, but the insurance specialist I met with a few times at the...
