Re: What is the first thing you will eat after braces?
Our supervisor brought donuts in this morning and I managed to gum one to death. I wasn't sure I'd be able to, so it was an accomplishment.

Wow. I'm going to be able to eat corn on the cob after this!nifer237 wrote:CORN ON THE COB. Lots of it. ...
You have to understand... I've never been able to eat corn on the cob since I was a kid with baby teeth, because my permanent teeth were so crooked.
Wow. Corn on the cob. Just... wow.

Re: Eating Lunch!
Knife and fork in the purse at all times! What a great idea! :jump: I can't just randomly bite into any thing. Everything has to be cut up into tiny little pieces. I have started getting patty melts or pita sandwiches instead of burgers on buns or rolls because the bread is easier to cut up. I had a...

Re: Something I've learned from wearing braces....
That's what it's been like for me, too! Everyone who comments on them is excited and/or happy for me. I haven't had a single negative experience yet. I've even given out my ortho's card to people who ask for it because they think my teeth look so much better already and they are interested in gettin...

Re: using a child sized toothbrush
I've been using a child-sized toothbrush for years, way before I had braces, because my mouth has been so crowded with all these humongous teeth that it was the only thing I could really fit in there and actually get my teeth clean. Adult-sized toothbrushes would actually bruise me because it was so...

Re: What is the first thing you will eat after braces?
Oh yes , microwave popcorn. I absolutely yearn for it. And Doritos. I can only eat Doritos at this point by crushing them and then sort of slurping on the crumbs, and it just ain't the same thing! I think I'll also have a lovely salt bagel, toasted, with plain cream cheese. No way could I get my fac...

Re: Aesthetics when upper first premolars are extracted?!
Well, I had my right lateral extracted to make room for the canine to come down, which left kind of... oh heck, it left an enormous open gaping cavern of space. And I'm a musician with a lot of gigs booked, so I had to start going right back up onstage a week later and opening my mouth to sing. If a...

Re: Is eating optional after braces
This discussion thread is my main source of inhibition about getting braces! Don't let us scare you! Believe me, even if I have to subsist on tomato soup and Ensure for the next two years, I would never, ever go back and not get these braces because of it. The feeling of being able to smile unselfc...

Re: Is eating optional after braces
It took me eight weeks, right up till my first adjustment, to chew on anything significant. The night before that adjustment, I was actually able to bite into a cheeseburger and chew it. I went to my ortho the next day and told him I had eaten a cheeseburger, and he chuckled and said "Well, I'l...

Re: Is this normal or strange behavior for an orthodontist?
I think the advice to state plainly 'That behavior/question/whatever makes me feel uncomfortable' is excellent. It is possible he just doesn't realize that he is coming across as creepy, and by saying so you can give him a chance to reevaluate his behavior if it's only been innocent mistakes. If he ...

I'm going to have to have this done all along my molars at some point. I can tell y'all right now that if it involves vibration they're going to have to give me some anesthetic, because for whatever reason vibration hurts me a lot!

... almost EVERY person I have seen since I have had them on then points to a tooth or teeth they hate in their mouth and said they wished they had the guts to get braces! ... Isn't that just the weirdest thing??? I've had perfect strangers in checkout lines at the store strike up a conversation ab...

Re: Bite is really screwed up now - to be expected?
Yeah, my bite mostly went away after two weeks braced, and it shifts around every week or so! I can usually find some chewing action on the last molar or two on the right, but otherwise it's pretty random. I completely get the chewing with your mouth open and dribbling food problem, though. My brace...

Re: Nervous about new job tomorrow! In need of encouragemen
I was very conscious of changes in my speech too, but what you hear in your own head is much more exaggerated than what others hear. The first week I had my full braces I played a gig with my band, and I was pretty nervous about my singing, but my bandmates told me I did fine. I didn't really believ...

Re: I think my braces caused massive cankers and swelling...
Have you tried putting wax over the brackets? That was the only thing that got me through the first week. Now it seems like I've gotten more used to it; it's only if I talk or sing for several hours straight that they bother me.
