Re: What to expect with an expander

And one more thing Georgina, you will have some extra saliva at the beginning. I wasn't warned about it, and it caught me off guard. I was later told it was because there was "foreign" objects with all the equipment in my mouth and it was my bodies way of getting used to it. That too, will...

Re: What to expect with an expander

Hi Georgina, I hope I can help you out a bit...I had both an upper and lower expander last year (I am an adult too;). The upper was removable, the bottom was cemented. It did take some getting used to...the worst part for me was feeling all the bulkiness in my mouth and retraining my mouth to speak ...

Re: And So It Begins

I know it is hard to believe now, but you will get used to the palatal expander. I have had mine in since the end of March (upper and lower) and even though I know they are in there, I am used to them and barely notice them except when eating. A waterpik is strongly recommended as it can be very dif...

Re: 41 and getting braces and rme in 2 weeks !!!

I promise, you will get used to it...I had that exact same panicky feeling like you were describing. Seriously! But I stuck with it...and it is definitely easier to live with now. I am not sure how long it will be for you to get used to it since everyone is probably a little different, but I am thin...

Re: New here, RPE upper and lower, braced in future

You're right Wanda, it is a rather weird feeling isn't it? I thought it would hurt, but it doesn't really hurt....but there is some definite soreness when eating. I am sure you are probably experiencing something similar? I lived off of smoothies/applesauce the first few days but have graduated to b...

Re: 41 and getting braces and rme in 2 weeks !!!

Hi Wanda, I can really relate to your story, but it all does get better. I had both an upper and lower RPE placed just a few weeks ago and went through the very same things as you. The extra saliva will go away as your mouth/body gets used to the new contraption. It felt like I had 3-4 golf balls in...

New here, RPE upper and lower, braced in future

Hi everyone! I wanted to introduce myself. I am in my late 30's, and have wanted to have a nice smile...well...since I can remember! I have some crowding, as well as a bit of an overbite and just had RPE's placed in upper and lower a few weeks ago. The upper is removable, the lower is fixed. I did d...
