Re: Self-ligating ceramics - what happens at adjustment?

I have self-ligating ceramics... I had both wires changed and new power chains at first adjustment. See my blog for more details, but apart from getting my forsus on my 5th adjustment, i've had at least one wire changed each adjustment. This past one they just clipped the ends of my wires as they we...

Re: Clear vs. Metal Braces

I have clear self-ligating brackets (in-ovation c i think). Because there's no ligatures i've had no staining and that's pretty impressive given I drink tea everyday! :D My back brackets are metal on lower premolars back and upper molars. The great thing about clear is that they are not visible in m...

Re: Tips for eating with braces

Rahmama - it definitely took me by surprise but it does get better... Though 6 months in its going to be a long time before potato chips/crisps and hard cookies are an option... But I have no bite right now, extraction gaps and forsus. I am in my ortho's words a complex case... So this is kindof why...

Re: Frightful yank by dental assistants causing shaky lower

Unfortunately I can't comment on the after part as i'm not that far along yet... Though have read they will feel loose for a while until the bone has healed (a year I think). But as for the yanking that sounds like almost every one of my adjustments... Insane pain and pushing on certain teeth and ev...

Re: Who has had four premolars extracted AND all four wisdom

I had my 4 wisdom teeth extracted in 2009: 3 of which were impacted. Then this year getting braces I had to get 4 premolars out. I was kindof surprised at first given i'd already lost the wisdom, but how it was explained to me is that my upper jaw is underdeveloped and if I were a child they could w...

Re: 29 year old braced for the first time!

Hi Klobird, My overjet was 7mm at start of treatment, don't know if it's come in yet. I need to post recent photos as I think now my teeth are somewhat aligned it's a lot more obvious than it was before when they were all crooked and slanted towards one another. I have the cotton rolls in tonight at...

Re: OK--This was not the plan!

Hi Klobird, I got the forsus on my left side today... I wrote the whole story on my blog. I was so nervous this morning, but so far it's not any more painful than anything else i've been through so far. I think the main thing is going to getting used to the creepy noises it makes and having an alien...

Re: 29 year old braced for the first time!

So today I got the forsus springs appliance! Updated my blog with the full details for anyone interested. First impressions: not as painful as I expected and definitely not as bad as day 1... Mostly it's more creepy and strange then anything... It's like an alien thing in my mouth i'm not used to ye...

Re: Favorite color powerchain??

Hi Klobird, I've had power chains since day one, in varying configurations - kind of like you and the elastics. They hurt at first but have no idea how much more or less they hurt relative to not having had them. Though given you had elastics since day 1 i'm sure you'll adjust fast. My ortho gave me...

Re: How do powerchains work?

Maybe it depends on how much time you have between adjustments, but i've had power chains since day 1. I'm currently 5 days from my 5th adjustment and have seen movement just today in regards to gaps and even had pain earlier on my upper right side where the power chain is. Though rest assured the p...

Forsus Springs: does anyone know what to expect?

So I am getting the forsus springs in 3 weeks, 1 day! I've had braces and power chains since May, but am getting the forsus before the elastics - yup straight to the scariest rollercoaster at the theme park! :-** I'm getting the forsus on my right side for a short time hopefully just a mon...

Re: Class II elastics: timeline and effects?

Not that this will help :? but I think it varies... I have an overbite and cross bite and am getting class 2 elastics but not yet. I got braces and power chains in May. Next month I get the forsus appliance then sometime after that I get elastics. The forsus is so scary looking that i'm not scared o...

Re: This is normal, right?

I hope/think it's normal as i've had the same because the teeth next to my extractions have been the most painful/sensitive especially on the bottom. I think it's as they move into the gaps.

Re: not sure what to do (agonizing over extractions)

I had 4 extractions for braces (1st pre molars on top, 2nd pre molars on the bottom). I had overcrowding, bimaxillary protusion and an overbite. I'm too early in to see the final result but my understanding is that they're taken out in pairs for symmetry. Though everyone's different. At the time I h...

Re: Best lip balm/chap stick for bracing?

My absolute favorite is Sugar's clear lip treatment by Fresh available at Sephora: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P57002 It conditions really good and is factor 15 SPF and claims to contain a bunch of vitamins and plumps your lips a little and feels nice... It's a little pricy but I ...
