Re: Braces for 2nd time at 41. Three weeks in and problems.
Oh man. I can so relate! It takes me forever to make a decision because I have to research everything and think about it and sleep on it... in the case of braces, for years! So then it stinks when you're finally like "full steam ahead" -- only to have the universe turn things upside down o...

Re: A gap when braces are supposedly coming off?
Wow kreyFL -- thank you! That is so funny it happened to you too! My heart just sank when I noticed this gap forming so it's really reassuring to know it happened to someone else in the final stages of treatment and was fixable. I haven't had a space this big during my nearly-two-years of treatment,...

Re: A gap when braces are supposedly coming off?
Yes, it's supposed to be the final wire. She put it on maybe two months ago. I had a thick regular wire prior to that. I don't know why she selected that wire for the big finish, maybe because the teeth were already close to being in place? But it could explain why I'm seeing movement...

A gap when braces are supposedly coming off?
Hello forum! My braces are supposedly coming off next week HUZAAAAAA!!!!! Sorry that just slipped out. But I am concerned, because in the three weeks since my last appointment, a gap has developed on two sides of one tooth in my lower arch, towards the front (see pic -- there is a matching gap on th...

Re: Here we go
After four months in a row hearing "Only two to three months more!" at each ortho visit, I finally had two braces taken off either side, on the top back today. She had to stop partway through I was shaking so bad! It wasn't that it hurt so much as it just felt so invasive and upsetting. Af...

Re: adding elastics are like braces^2
Man, thanks for this post. I just got 2 elastics yesterday (I'm 10 months in) and they are really bugging me and hurting. I don't seem to have the rubbing problem since my uppers are lingual, but they cross over my teeth from outer on lowers to inner on uppers and so I'm biting on rubber all the tim...

Klobird I really enjoy reading your write-ups, we're right there along with you wincing but grinning too! I'm sorry I missed the chance to vote for your photo in the ortho contest. Did you find out who won yet?? More importantly, when do we get some new update pics, would love to see how your teeth ...

Re: I am Iron Maiden: Laura's Journey
Welcome to the "club" and congratulations about getting started! I like your smile already so I'm sure you'll get some great results. Interesting about your front top two; mine are ground down from hitting the bottom ones as well, but the lower edges on yours look pretty straight still. Mi...

Re: Here we go
Thank You, Metal Mouth gang!! It was really nice to get the "chin up" posts when I logged in. I needed it! Today was my first day with the rubber bands and they are driving me a little bonkers. Since my uppers are lingual and my lowers are regular, that means the bands cross from the insid...

Re: Here we go
Well, I didn't get the bonding (yet.) I've just come back from the second of two visits since my last post, and I now am sporting two really unattractive rubber bands, one on either side. Feeling really down in the dumps.

Re: Here we go
Hi all. I'm a little behind on the updating. I lost my camera battery charger so I haven't been able to take my daily photos, and those photos were a real incentive to post. Well, I'll try to pick a charger up soon and get back going. I've had two adjustments in the meantime. The first one was quick...

Re: Wary of proposed tooth bonding while in braces
Hi all, thanks for your responses and thoughts. I spoke to my ortho by phone today and she answered my questions as follows: 1. Would the bonding have a structural purpose beyond just aesthetics? Yes, my front teeth have been shortened by hitting the bottom teeth, and bringing the front teeth back t...

Re: Wary of proposed tooth bonding while in braces
Hi Archwired28 -- thanks for replying. My top two front teeth are pretty badly worn along the bottom because my teeth were hitting each other before braces straightened them (a bit -- I still have a long way to go.) Also, my front right incisor has a seam across the middle where it got broken in two...

Re: How visible are lingual braces??? Got rid of invisalign!
I have linguals on the uppers and regular on the lowers. Can't see the linguals at all (although I don't have any elastics... yet.) The metal does come around to the "bite" surface of the teeth so someone could presumably see metal if you opened your mouth REALLY wide... but otherwise, not...

Wary of proposed tooth bonding while in braces
Actually, wary of it at all. At my last adjustment, my ortho told me to schedule a longer appointment next time so she could do some bonding on my front teeth. This was a casual remark and we had never discussed this before. I was not aware this was supposed to even be included in my treatment. I th...
