Re: What is expected at the first retainer check?

QT- I had my first check for the upper retainer and the ortho made minor adjustments to my Hawley. He also spent time showing me what he was adjusting it for. However that's his style. He always makes sure all my questions are answered and is very detailed in his explanations. I have another appoint...

Re: Permanent Wire Retainer on bottom teeth driving me crazy

Conine-
You are a trooper for having the permanent wires and the retainers. I know we all want to keep our teeth from moving back and to preserve our new gorgeous smiles. :D

I am still loving the freedom of nothing on during the day.

Re: Permanent Wire Retainer on bottom teeth driving me crazy

Conine- I TOTALLY know about the tongue rubbing on the bits of glue that hold the wire in place! I just could not stop my tongue from going there. And like you, I would have a raw spot on the tip at the end of the day. If you are using top & bottom retainers, do you still have the permanent wire...

Re: Permanent Wire Retainer on bottom teeth driving me crazy

On Sunday, I ate my first apple since getting debraced. And guess what happened? The permanent wire band on my lower teeth popped right off! HUARRH! I called the dentist on Monday- turns out my lower retainer had arrived. I went in that afternoon for a fitting and for removal of the last bits of glu...

Re: Who Did?

I did! At age 59 I embarked on "the year of pain" which turned into 15 months. I was tired of looking at crooked overlapping teeth (top and bottom) and worrying about my smile. I do a lot of networking and business development work for my job- I wanted a nice smile! It's been 2 months sinc...

Re: elastics one handed--funny, not much fun

TMJJill- I am so sorry you had to have surgery on your wrist while you are in braces! That's a double whammy! :( It sounds like you have tried everything in your power to adapt and I applaud you for trying to become ambidexterous! :jump: My only suggestion would be to ask your ortho and dentist for ...

Standing ovation for what Klobird said! :jump: :jump: :jump: Megan1976 I did some research. And this is definately not meant as an attack on you. Just some information that I've gleaned from your past 11 posts. It appears that you are a fairly recent member of this site. It also appears that ...

Re: Removable as good as bonded retainers?

Steve83- I don't know how you managed 3 years with the bonded retainer! You deserve a HUGE pat on the back! I have had a bonded wire on my 4 lower front teeth since Jan 11 this year. That's a little over a month. I HATE it. So much so, the ortho will remove it and I will use a Hawley retainer at nig...

Re: Permanent Wire Retainer on bottom teeth driving me crazy

I went to the ortho for a check up on Valentine's Day. I told him how much I HATED the permanent wire band behind my front teeth and that I would NEVER get used to it. He immediately made a mold of my lower jaw for a retainer which I will wear at night. HURRAH!!! :jump: So I have one more month of m...

Re: Should you try to wean yourself off of the wax?

Railroad- What's wrong with crutches if they make your mouth less painful and you more comfortable? I dislike taking any kind of over the counter meds. CVS does not include me as one of it's frequent buyers. I very rarely take Advil- have to be in mortal pain. Adjustments were in the category of mor...

Re: Should you try to wean yourself off of the wax?

I used wax off and on for the entire time! Even after the final adjustment I had to resort to using wax, which really surprised me. Every time I left the ortho office, I had at least 4 new colored cases in my pocketbook. Like Sirwired, I would wear it until brushing and then see if I could go withou...
