Hi Helen, I am also going to be getting jaw surgery in Yorkshire this year. I have to say your post has me slightly worried! I have had my braces on now for 14 months and am approaching my final wire. I think at the next appointment my ortho wants to start booking in appointments at the joint clinic...

I would say about 3 weeks and then it starts to feel more normal. I couldn't even eat a banana it was that painful just smooth soups and mashed potato for me! It does get easier I promise - but be prepared as when your brace is tightened or your wire changed you can feel like your back at the beginn...

from being referred to an NHS Ortho and starting my treatment was 9 months - 3 months of that was the waiting list to start treatent so i woudl say it took about 6 months of appointments and research before i said yes. My treatment will probably be 24 months of fixed braces and double jaw surgery. M...
