What was your "WOW!" moment?
Was there a moment after being braced when you looked in the mirror and thought, "Wow! These things really are working!" or something similar? Yesterday, while driving home from work, I thought I had something stuck between my front teeth. I felt it with my finger, and realized it felt rea...

Re: Julia's Braces Saga (Pictures)
I finally got some pictures uploaded. Here's brace day: http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb353/JuliaCK221/52511B.jpg And here's one month later: (I don't see much difference) http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb353/JuliaCK221/62511B.jpg I've got a two-month picture and am about to take a three-...

Re: Julia's Braces Saga
Yeeeow! I went to the orthodontist yesterday for my routine adjustment. I had my old wires removed and got tandem wires on top and bottom. Wow! What a difference sixteen hours and tandem wires make! My front two teeth are almost touching! Amazing! I also got rubber bands to begin correcting my bite....

Re: using a child sized toothbrush
I do too! I didn't want to say so because I thought it might seem silly, but I love it! My 4-year-old had some extra ones (she's good at talking the dentist into giving her more than one at each visit) so she let me have a pink one. The handle is shaped like a penguin with a little suction cup on th...

Re: Julia's Braces Saga
This morning's appointment yielded another funny story. I called the office yesterday to see if I could just go in and have a wire clipped. (It was poking out the back about 1/4 inch.) I got there this morning and the ortho saw me, which I thought was a little strange. Usually it's an assistant or s...

Re: How long from records/impressions until "brace day"?
I had my initial consult with the orthodontist on May 11th, and had spacers put in the same day. I went back May 18th for impressions and band fittings. Then I was officially braced top and bottom on May 25th. Two weeks from initial consult to brace day. Even my regular dentist thought that was quick!

Re: New guy! 30/M Getting braces for the first time
Chris, congratulations on your decision. You will not regret it. I looked in to going the university route. I had convinced myself that it was the best decision mainly because of the reduction in cost, but also because it's always good to feel beneficial to someone else's educational experience. Unf...

Re: 2 days until D-Day
Awesome! I can't even imagine what that is going to feel like. I've only had my braces on for a few weeks and I've already had weird dreams about what it'll feel like to have them off again!
Congratulations!

Re: My Braces at 54, with pics
Huggypillow, I think it is fantastic that your parents and family have been so supportive. I've known from a very early age that I needed braces, and the problems have only gotten worse as I have gotten older. My parents couldn't afford braces and were once even told that the only thing that could h...

I wish you the best of luck with your braces! Isn't it so exciting to know what's just ahead?
I have to agree with the others. You have gorgeous teeth. I just know they'll be perfectly brilliant when you are finished with treatment.

Wow! It's so exciting and encouraging to see how your teeth are moving into position so quickly! I can't wait until I can notice my teeth touching the way they're supposed to.
Congrats on the awesome progress already!

Re: Julia's Braces Saga
I got through the weekend at the beach without much to complain about! Well... other than waking up convinced my husband had punched me in the jaw during the night. Nope, just sore! And sunburned! Oops! Should've used more sunscreen! On a related note, has anyone had experience with sutures i...

Re: Julia's Braces Saga
So far, the pain has not been so bad. I honestly think dealing with the spacers before the braces went on was the worst part. On the other hand, I'm sure I'd be in much more pain right this minute (from the extractions) if not for some serious pain meds! I hadn't thought about a Waterpik, but so far...

stepher7, thanks for the encouraging words. I'll post pictures soon! 45wantsnicesmile, I've been told 2 full years, but may be shorter depending on how everything progresses.
