Hello, I haven't posted here in a while. It's been almost 3 month since surgery. I'm healing nicely. I can't open as far as I used to be able to, but that will come back eventually. Also, I'm still having some pain in my right jaw joint, but my orthodontist thinks that might go away as things settle...

I had my wisdom teeth during jaw surgery. (upper, lower and genio). Is there a possibility they could do that with you, or do you need your teeth out in advance, so they have more room in your mouth? Because I had my teeth out during surgery, I never even really knew I had them out. I was on liquids...

Which teeth is the gap between? I have a gap between my front teeth, and my treatment plan indicates that I will need a frenectomy to keep my gap closed, otherwise it will re-open once my braces come off. I don't know all the details of the frenectomy, but it has something to do with bone, or gum ti...

I had an x-ray taken about 6 months in. My orthodontist wanted to check how things were going, and then at the next appointment, they removed 3 or 4 brackets, and replaced them on the same teeth, but in different positions so they would pull the teeth in different ways then they had been. I knew in ...

Your teeth are really looking nice. Your arches are shaping nicely.

And congrats on the weight loss! That is a great thing for your general health, but it will also lower your risk of complications from the anesthetic when you have your surgery.

Take care,

Hi, Power chains can also be used to help shape the arch. They work with the wire to evenly pull things into proper alignment. I wish power chains came in multi-colours. Sometimes, I get bored of having all one color in a row. Has anyone ever seen or had a multi-coloured power chains? take care, pea...

Hi, I'm 27, and I've had braces on for over a year now. Nobody has made fun of me yet. I help out with the youth group at my church sometimes, and we kind of tease each other about our braces (more than 50% of the regular youth group attendees have braces!) but in a nice way. Really though, we compa...

Hello, I've found that it's easier to stay on top of the pain by taking pain killers at regular intervals, as you are doing, instead of trying to brave it, and only take the pills when things get really bad. Eventually though, you'll need to be brave and try not taking any pills for a day to see if ...

Hi Jane, Nausea... oh yeah! To give you the gory details, I had surgery on a Tuesday morning, and I first threw up Tuesday evening. It was just blood, and because it was all liquid, it wasn't a problem even though I was banded shut. I then threw up a lot more once in the night, after getting up to g...

I first got elastics during my second month in braces, to change the tilt of my front bottom teeth, and then again about two month later on my top teeth to keep some of my teeth from moving into some gaps that I needed for surgery. Now that I'm a few weeks post surgery, I currently have 8 elastics i...

Hi northerngirl, I'm glad things are going well for you. Be glad you aren't a Maritimer. I have to drive 4 and 1/2 hours to see my surgeon because there isn't one in my city that performs jaw surgery. My elastics are removable. I have 4 on each side. I have 2 boxes on each side, each done with 2 ela...

Hello, KevinFrank, I am exactly 3 weeks post-op today, and I still have some swelling in my cheeks. It's not much, and people who don't know me don't notice anything is wrong with me, but those who do know me can tell I am still a bit swollen. My understanding is that bone grafts cause extra swellin...

I had my first post-op appointment with my surgeon on Wednesday. He gave me permission to remove my bands to eat. I am only to eat soft foods, and can't have the bands off for more than an hour, but still... that's better than nothing. So far, I have had oatmeal, yogurt and pudding. Also, I've sucke...

Hello, I think I responded to one of your other posts before... I am in New Brunswick, and I had to travel to Halifax to have my jaw surgery done. The only thing I had to pay for was the removal of my wisdom teeth. That's not covered by NB Medicare, but it is covered by my health plan up to 80%, so ...

I did the same thing on a band trip to Boston, but instead of telling the frostbite story, we told them about seal-hunting in detail (all made up on the spot, of course), and about our dogsleds, and about how excited we were to be in Boston where people used cars instead of Skidoos. Back on topic - ...
