Re: NHS patients... I've lots of questions...!
I was in braces for 18 months before my upper jaw surgery. I had my pre-op and then waited about a month for my appointment, which was another 6/8 weeks after that. Unfortunately, I had my surgery on the last day of term, so spent my treasured holiday recovering...but hey ho, it's done now. My teeth...

Re: July 2013 Buddies
Rio- sorry to hear that your swelling is causing discomfort. YOu must have 'peaked' by now so hopefully you'll see a gradual improvement from now on.

Re: July 2013 Buddies
Mia- I wonder when we will like what we see in the mirror?
The surgery successfully got rid of my gummy smile but now I can see other imperfections. I fea r I set expectations too high.

Re: July 2013 Buddies
Good luck to you guys.
I had check up with ortho yesterday and he is very happy with bite ( with elastics on) so no need for second surgery.
On soft food now so being experimental with the blender.

Re: July 2013 Buddies
Glad you are ok mia. I've had bit of trouble with antibiotics. They've been too strong and sent my stomach into spasms. Back to Dr for a slightly gentler type. Swelling is going down nicely. Im Still puffy and numb around upper lip and nose. I'll be seeing ortho weekly for 6 weeks now. Surgeon will ...

Re: What is double jaw surgery like one week post-op?
Im on day 5 and feel pretty rotten as I've had a bad reaction to the meds i was discharged with. Accute stomach cramps and violent diarrhea. That's on top of usual swelling.....
I would consider another date

Re: July 2013 Buddies
Hospital stay wasn't too bad- i felt well looked after. Ward was very hot though. As for the overjet - surgeon says that some movement is normal and should settle down as swelling reduces. I was in tears this morning and he kept reassuring me that it was normal .

Re: July 2013 Buddies
Hi. I'm back home now. 2 days in hospital was more than enough! Mixed results at the moment. During surgery only top jaw was moved and in theatre my bite was correct. However, post-op, I now have a 6mm overjet. It's so big I can put my tongue through it. I've got elastics on but if they don't pull i...

Re: July 2013 Buddies
Just a few days after me then Mia. Visited the Ortho on Friday. He took impressions and photos. I also saw the surgeon briefly to discuss a few bits. He will be moving my top jaw UP 6mm and will also do something to my nose to avoid all my nasal passages getting squashed. I'm mentally preparing myse...

Re: July 2013 Buddies
And that makes three! I've got an appointment next week for impressions/ wafer measurements. The following week I'm having hooks put on ready for the following Monday 22nd ( surgery day) Life is very busy at the moment so I don't think it has actually sunk in that my surgery is only weeks away. I've...

Where are you from Mia? You are very lucky to have a surgery date so soon to finding out that you need surgery.

July 2013 Buddies
Hi,
I've finally got my date through for my surgery; 22nd July. I'm having my upper jaw impacted to get rid of my gummy smile and possibly a small movement on my lower jaw to make sure both jaws fit together well.
Anyone else out there having surgery in July....?
