Joyayn,
I'm sorry to hear that! That's something I'm worried about happening to me because I'm no expert, so I can't positively say what is wrong with my jaws/face. How did you finally get to the point of deciding on surgery? Did the ortho notice things getting worse?

Re: Surgery even though perfect bite?
RYANvaughn, I actually sent you a pm. But I agree with you, when my ortho said it could be fixed with braces, I was afraid things would get worse, which is why I posted here for different opinions. Have you gone through with surgery?

Re: Surgery even though perfect bite?
My ortho said that taking my wisdom teeth out and getting braces will fix everything, but I've had an abnormal jaw since I was a baby. I wish I could show you pictures, but it seems too personal posting pictures of me when I was young. Point is, over time, the asymmetry in my jaw has gotten worse. I...

Surgery even though perfect bite?
I've been having a lot of problems with my jaws and I talked to my orthodontist about it. The right side of my jaw is significantly bigger and longer than the left, and when I open my mouth, my jaw shifts to the left. I also had clicking and popping and occasional cracking of my jaw, followed by a s...

Re: Needing guidance
I scheduled an appointment with my orthodontist but won't see him until two weeks. I'm going to talk to him about all my concerns and see what he has to say. If he says that surgery is unnecessary, then I'll presume that nothing is wrong.

Re: Needing guidance
I read that many insurance companies consider orthognathic surgery to be cosmetic. I don't want to get insurance from a company if they won't cover anything. Do you have any suggestions as to which company I should consider insurance from for this surgery?

Re: Needing guidance
IamSam12345, Thanks for your reply! Sometimes I do feel like I'm being hard on myself, but I asked my sister to see if it's just me who only notices the asymmetry. She says she sees it but noticed it only until I pointed it out to her and that it's really not even noticeable. That gave me a relief b...

Needing guidance
I'm fairly new to this site, but I've been finding a lot of these forums to be helpful. Recently I had the courage to speak with an orthodontist about some jaw problems I've had concerns about. Long story short, he thinks my bite is fine but I do have TMJ dysfunction and just told me not to chew gum...
