Re: Just saw Dr. Arnett in Santa Barbara today!
I saw Dr. Gunson last week and was very impressed! I definitely want him to do my surgery now, but even if it doesn't work out I am still really glad I went! He confirmed my self diagnosis of a cross-bite, asymmetry and TMJ and also told me I have an open-bite I wasn't aware of since I force my mout...

Re: my current pics
When I look at your pictures I think you look really nice. If you're looking at genioplasty though has anyone mentioned doing a chin implant instead? I have no idea if that would be a good alternative but I read somewhere that the two procedures have similar results. (I am very new to all of this th...

Re: Is this weird, or standard?
Thanks Reosity. That's who I'm talking about. I don't want to waste time, money, effort, and emotion going to all the wrong people and possibly wind up wounded. angelstrings, I feel the same way! I am planning on going to see Dr. Gunson for a consult in September. I'm already counting down the days...

Re: Just saw Dr. Arnett in Santa Barbara today!
Hi Zach, I'm so glad your appointment went well. It sounds like it must have been extremely thorough! Just curious - did his recommendations match up with what Dr. Wolford said? Hopefully you can appeal to your insurance company to cover more of the costs. I just recently started seriously looking i...

Re: Perception of 'non necessary' surgery
Hi metal mouth fairy - I read it here: http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=33484&p=323980&hilit=pregnant#p323980 According to my surgeon females have to be careful with the way their hormones affect their joints. My surgeon strongly suggests waiting a year post surgery t...

Re: Just Had Minor Jaw Surgery Yesterday
Very interesting, thanks for sharing! I haven't had surgery yet but the idea of the hardware being left in my jaw is a little strange to me, especially if I could feel it in there!

Re: surgery
[quote="Christina28"]If you are lucky enough to have a choice of competent, talented surgeons, that is of course the best way to go. However, I have discovered that in some parts of the USA, at least, there is a scarcity of surgeons who perform these procedures. This seems to be, at least ...

Re: Upper jaw surgery - through nose??
Wow, interesting. I've just started researching jaw surgery in general and haven't read anything about that before. Did you ask your surgeon why he would make the incision there instead of through your mouth?

Re: Perception of 'non necessary' surgery
[quote="yellowhat"]Thank you for your opinions. Hopefully the people who matter will support me through the treatment. Another thing is bothering me slightly; the time-scale. I have one little boy and was thinking of trying for number 2 in 2 years time. Obviously this will not be possible ...

Re: Want surgery vs Need surgery?
I need it to (hopefully) fix my TMJ issues, my horrible cross/slanted bite and chronic headaches. I want it for all of those same reasons in addition to improving my appearance (my lower jaws are asymmetrical).

Re: looking for orthodontist
Does anyone recommend any orthodontists in the Charleston, SC area? I saw an orthodontist for a consult in Atlanta and really liked him but we are moving to SC soon. He recommended I go to the medical school in Charleston, does anyone have any experience with anyone there? Thanks!

Re: When is a bone graft needed?
I'm really new to all of this and was wondering the same thing. I have pretty significant asymmetry (lower left jaw is shorter than the right) and was wondering if I will need a bone graft to correct it. Has anyone had that experience? Thanks!
