Re: Advice needed
Hi Keeponsmiling It sounds like you feel exactly like me - people at work say "just say you want the braces off" but you and I both know you can't request that - the orthos just don't work that way. Saying that, when I had my last ortho appt I said that I needed to talk to her about taking...

Advice needed
In brief I had my braces put on 3 and a half years ago with a view to having surgery to rectify a 9mm overbite. Since then I had the first op, but my jaw on one side just didn't heal at all, so I then had to have a second op involving a bone graft from my chin, with the grafted bone being placed in ...

Re: Improvement in Headaches Post- Bite Correction?
I had my bottom jaw moved forward last September and I have to say that since then I have had none of the headaches that I used to have. I don't think my headaches were as bad as what you are suffering (they used to be at the back of my head and the base of my skull and used to make me feel sick), b...

Re: Need some reassurance
Hi I'm so pleased to hear everything went ahead and it sounds like you are recovering nicely. I also currently have my teeth banded together after a second op - the worst part for me is when a yawn comes (even now whilst I'm typing the word it is making me want to yawn!!!) I bet you feel like a diff...

Re: September 2011 Buddies!!!!
Boatsink! How lovely to hear from you. Well, my op went ahead - that was another 2 hours in surgery - I've had more swelling this time than the first time (I guess the bone graft from my chin didn't help matters). I am paranoid now that things are moving again when I swallow - hopefully this is just...

Re: Need some reassurance
Absolutely no problem. If I were you my way of thinking would be - let's get my op over with and then my boyfriend can concentrate on his mum. At the moment he has two big clouds hanging over him (sorry to describe your op as a big cloud, but you know what I mean  ), you can get your op done ...

Re: Need some reassurance
You know looking after you may be just what your boyfriend needs - I'm guessing he is going to feel useless because he can't do anything to help his mum to make her better, he can be very useful to you though. Let him look after you, help him to feel useful. From the surgery you may be emotional at ...

Re: Surgery Numbness?
Hi, I had surgery 27th September 2011 to bring my bottom jaw brought forward. The feeling in the right side of my face came back pretty quick. On the left hands side side the feeling is coming back on my chin and on the outside edge of my bottom lip, but on the top of my lip no feeling as yet - I'm ...

Re: Plate has broken - second op needed!
Well after a meeting with 9 doctors/consultants today it was decided that the plate which has broken was not faulty. It seems that for some reason the break on the left side of my jaw did not heal at all - therefore there has been movement, which the plate has been trying to hold together for the pa...

Re: Plate has broken - second op needed!
This is the good old British NHS. I am just thankful that I am not in pain and that I'm not having to take time off work because of it - I don't think work would take too kindly to that. I feel quite vulnerable at work because I work in a college with lots of boisterous teenagers around so I tend to...

Re: Healing time
Hi Jade, I am 42 and had lower jaw advancement surgery at the end of September last year. The swelling hung around to different degrees for about 2 months afterwards (some days I panicked because I would wake up and try out a smile in the mirror and it looked gruesome - by the end of the day my smil...

Re: Plate has broken - second op needed!
Well the surgery to do my bone graft and replace the plate was due to happen yesterday, but the good old NHS have postponed it until the 28th Feb. Still, it's only a broken jaw!!!

Re: September 2011 Buddies!!!!
September Jo - that is bloody ridiculous!!! How can they skip to then!! Need I ask, but is it the NHS doing your veneers? It seems to me that until you are laid out on the theatre trolley or laid back in the ortho's chair that you can't guarantee that your appointment is going to go ahead. It is cle...
