Re: Experience of anesthesia

The first surgery I had was SARPE last September. That surgery was only a couple of hours. When I first "woke up" the nurse was there trying to get me to take my meds. I then had to go to x-ray for some films. I remember taking the meds and getting into the wheelchair, but I do not remembe...

Re: Nervous re mandibular advancement surgery - advice?

The decision is going to have to be all yours, but from what I have seen on this website I think most will recommend to go thru with the procedure. The recovery process will be difficult. I am one week post op right now or Lefort, BSSO, and Chin. There were a couple of times where I was really think...

Re: SARPE nEED INFORMATION PLEASE?

There is tons of information on this board for you. There are also a lot of blogs people have made of their journey thru SARPE. I had mine just over a year ago (it was Sept 28th, 2010). I was in the hospital for 1 night after, and had a bunch of swelling after. The swelling peeked after about the 3r...

Re: Post-Sarpe surgery confusion

I had SARPE back on September 28th of last year, and I went back to running on January 10th. Just about 3 and a half months. I may have been able to go back earlier, but I just told myself that I would pick it back up again after my holiday vacation. I completely understand about being self consciou...

Re: October 2011 Surgery Buddies?

Hello Everyone, I have a surgery date for 18 October. I am getting BSSO, Lefort I, and something with the chin to even everything out. I am not sure of the measurements or anything, but I have an appointment for Friday, September 30th, and I will be getting all that information then. I also don't kn...

Re: "It gets worse before it can get better"

How much your bite changes and "gets worse" completely depends on you. Every case is different. Depending on how your teeth are currently set, the ortho has to move them into a position where the surgeon can surgically correct the bite. It all depends on what type of surgery you are going ...

Re: SARPE picture progress.. I still hate this gap 4 month l

Thanks for sharing those pics. I had SARPE about a year ago, but my expansion was not as much as yours. It is anoying while that gap is there. But just remember that it's only going to be there for a short while and then you are going to have an awesome smile!

Re: New here, thinking about upper jaw surgery..=)

IMHO, I think you should get it done now, and here are the reasons I say this: 1) You have insurance now that will cover a large portion of the expense. This may or may not be the case later on down the road. 2) Problems with jaw misalignment may not develop until you are in your 30s or 40s or 50s. ...

Re: Surgical gaps either side of canines

I have a friend who did braces only - no surgeries - but had some teeth removed in order to make room. When the teeth were taken out, the space was then too much for her teeth to fill in on their own, so the ortho just put some filler (something like dental bondo - I think similar to what they use t...

Re: Motorcycle riders - post surgery

I'm getting the works too - lefort and bsso and something with the chin too. I had SARPE last September. From what I can tell, the recover is about the same. Maybe slightly longer since it's both jaws, but not too much different. Do you have a date yet? Good luck with your procedures and hope you ar...

Re: Swelling and Sinus Pressure 3 months out?

FYI – Ice will not help after the first 48-72 hours. Ice is used to constrict the blood vessels and prevent additional fluids from getting to the trauma location. After this initial period, continuing to constrict the blood vessels will not do anything to decrease the swelling. At this point, using ...

Re: Swelling and Sinus Pressure 3 months out?

You definitely need to talk to your doctor. What you had done was deferent, but I don’t think you should still be significantly swollen at the 12 week mark. For most procedures the swelling should peek day 3-5 and then decrease a good amount each week. I hope it’s not a serious problem and wish you ...

Re: Question for anyone who had bi-jaw surgery...

It sounds like you and I will be having similar procedures done. I am getting upper and lower surgery on 18 OCT. From what I was told (which was not much) was that my upper is slightly crooked with the left side a little higher than the right side, which they will correct with lefort. A bsso to move...

Looks great!!!! I am having the same thing on 18 OCT. It looks like all your swelling is gone. How do you like your new look? After all - that is what's important. Thanks for sharing your pics.
