Re: Have to decide, invisalign or braces
Lingual braces do sound good, aargh! My ortho doesn't do them. At this point I've gone through 3 full assessments with him (he was my 2nd opinion), plus I really like and trust him, free parking, and our kids go to school together... I don't think I've got the energy to find someone else! In my mind...

Have to decide, invisalign or braces
I joined 2 years ago when I was originally planning to correct my bite/grinding issues, but life got in the way. Now I'm less concerned about a couple of things, and have been offered invisalign as a less effective, but effective enough alternative. Does anyone know enough to give me an opinion? My ...

Re: What was your deciding factor when choosing an orthodont
I'm not sure I'm much help as I'm going in with no experience too, but I've chosen between 2 practices. Both are obviously good orthos. One would only do old school metal all over, and has a great reputation for results. I felt weird about metal but my deciding factor to leave a week before brace da...

'relaxing' lower jaw into natural position
I'm getting braces because my top front teeth point in and they push my bottom teeth in. Since I got a molar onlay years ago, I've found that my bite has sunk in at the back too, giving my face a rounder look than before. A while ago my dentist put me in a retainer thing that blocked my lower inciso...

Re: Gum graft done, braces booked!
Thank you for your kind message. I hope I'm not coming across flippant about my situation- I'm just forcing myself forwards.
That's a lot of work in one go! Wow you must be happy to have it over with! Congratulations on having your braces off! I can't even picture that day right now

Re: Gum graft done, braces booked!
Thank you! It is incredibly sad, but I have to say this sore mouth gives me something else to think about. Plus I'm a big emotional eater but I'm finding it's just not worth it with this pain. That has to be a plus. I guess it will be the same when the braces go on!

Gum graft done, braces booked!
After 2 years of waiting for 'the right time' I recently came to the conclusion I need to just go for it. I'm the 38 yr old mum of 1 great 4 yr old, and this has been a crazy couple of years. Losses and illness in the family, and just this month I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage. I figured I might a...

Re: Midline Shift--Not sure what to do!
I think this should have been discussed with you from the start. I have a canine missing, and have been told I can simply close the gaps and have an off midline, or i can have an implant in the gap, a corrected midline, and a big overbite! Both options feel wrong to me so I'm going to talk to my ort...

Re: Wyoo my surgical v non-surgical options
I think I just understood for the first time why a relaxed jaw doesn't necessarily mean the teeth will be properly aligned- thanks for taking the time to explain it. I'm struggling because I have to choose either surgery or an off midline. When i look at my teeth I'm having a hard time picturing why...

Re: Wyoo my surgical v non-surgical options
Thanks sirwired- do you think your opinion would be the same if it was 3 years in braces then surgery? I'm also wondering if the surgery will be necessary at all. Maybe I can have the implant and not be left with the huge overbite my ortho thinks I'll have. My dentist gave me a deprogrammer a while ...

Wyoo my surgical v non-surgical options
I'm still here, still unbraced! I changed or this after having a few misgivings about the first one. Now I'm getting clear self ligating on top and metal below, but the lower arch will be added later as most of the work is up top. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on my options? I have a top ...

Re: Ambivalent Ortho office rant
Thanks again for the push- new ortho is really nice, also highly recommended, uses self ligating brackets, same overall cost estimate, free parking and right next to my dentist. Looks like I'll be going for clear on top and metal below. He called regular brackets "80's" in a slight diss to...

Re: Ambivalent Ortho office rant
Thanks guys, I think you're right. I called my dentist and they said no-one has complained, but yes she would probably have me in braces for a long time. I got a different referral so we'll see how that works out!

Ambivalent Ortho office rant
I finalised my decisions about brackets etc in September but the back-to-school crowd had my Ortho all booked up, so I ended up booking my braces on date for mid November. A week before I still hadn't received a written or emailed agreement and life was getting in the way, so I re-scheduled for Dec ...

Re: So finally getting braces but......
I've got short roots in the front where the most movement happens, and my Ortho just wants to keep a closer eye on them - ie x-rays every 4 months which I'm not too enthused about, but yes it's better than loosing teeth! Afterwards I'm getting a canine implant which my dentist says is very straightf...
