Re: Braces getting on top of me. Bad week :(

Lisa78 I am sorry for your frustration. I know it's very difficult. I think you are doing the right thing by trying to save the healthy tooth rather than going for the bridge/implant. It's always better to keep your own teeth if at all possible. I agree with what KennyAndrew85 said about doing this ...

Re: really struggling, need honest feedback (pics included)

Hello everyone and here's the latest update from purplepetunia: 1. Had consultation with 2nd ortho Tuesday to get his opinion of my current treatment. It went well and I was impressed with him. He went over my ortho's initial treatment plan/photos plus my own photos from Oct. 2010 and Dec. 2011 in a...

Re: really struggling, need honest feedback (pics included)

Hello all, Thought I would post an update with my latest developments since everyone has been so helpful and caring. 1. I have an appointment tomorrow morning to get a second opinion from another orthodontist (who comes highly recommended by a close friend). 2. I called my current orthodontist to as...

Re: really struggling, need honest feedback (pics included)

What does you general dentist think is causing your receding gum? The receding gum looks to me like it's caused by periodontitis. I agree with some of others here who suggest seeking an opinion from a Periodontist. I suffer with periodontis myself, so decided to visit a Periodontist for an opinion ...

Re: really struggling, need honest feedback (pics included)

Hey purple, I would definitely ask to speak before the check up begins. My thought process is "Same action, same result". I think there needs to be common ground/communication established before you go through yet another appointment and leave scratching your head. This ortho has proven t...

Re: Elastics.. WHAT DO THEY DO!

Hi sunshinesmile (love that name!), I don't really know the science behind wearing the elastics at night only. In another thread someone mentioned that elastics work differently at night than they do during the day due to the jaw being at rest and the pull of the elastics being more horizontal than ...

Re: Elastics.. WHAT DO THEY DO!

Hi, Today was my 2nd adjustment and I just got elastics to wear them at night only (for now, atleast thats what my ortho said). Anyhow, for those people who wore them at night--tonight's my 1st night, any advice? Should I take couple Ibuprofen before going to sleep? Thanks! Hi sunshinesmile, I have...

Re: Distal End Wire Cutters

I doubt they would give you the wire cutters. Even though there's a safety catch on them, I've still had instances where the piece of wire fell into the back of my mouth and the technician had to fish it out. Think of it this way: the fact that you keep getting wires poking out means your teeth are ...

Re: How do you eat with a TPA and how long did you have it?

Hi Mamajay, I had a TPA installed pretty early on in my treatment (I'm at about 23 months so far), still have it, and my ortho says it will be in almost through to the end of treatment (less than 6 more months I hope). I have gotten used to mine and don't notice it nearly as much as I did at first. ...

Re: removing lower front tooth when teeth are 1/2 step forwa

My daughter’s orthodontist wants to remove a single lower front tooth to correct for overcrowding of her lower teeth. The two teeth behind the canines on the top have already been removed. She has a big smile, and I am concerned about the visual effect of this procedure. Her lower teeth are a perfe...

Re: really struggling, need honest feedback (pics included)

Second opinion, right away. This is unacceptable to me and I would not sit and wait for that first orthodontist to make some dental magic that may or may not even happen. Thank you CountessDeSangre. I appreciate your no-nonsense approach. :) I have gotten the names of two other orthos who come high...

Re: really struggling, need honest feedback (pics included)

WOW! That is shocking. No offense but might I ask "What is WRONG with your orthodontist?" At my place, no matter how busy the ortho is, the assistant wont touch me aside from taking the wires off to change my colours ;) Even if it means we have to wait an hour, then we wait, no biggy. AND...

Re: really struggling, need honest feedback (pics included)

If you were my Mama...I would be so upset for you. The pictures were kinda shocking. I can see how beautiful your smile is going to be...once the gaps close and it gets straightened out but it does seem drastic right now. I think as a patient with orthos we have a tendency to be understanding of th...

Re: really struggling, need honest feedback (pics included)

I think I would make an appointment with the office manager. Take your pictures. Explain your expectations (extremely reasonable expections--to have the teeth come together without gaps and triangles) Then ask her/him to spell out the plan for your teeth, and how it works, and what they use, and ho...
