I wish I lived in Canada! Medical care here sucks. And I'm mad at myself, because I used to be on top cover, but just recently switched to "save money" (I wasn't using my health insurance at all for the past few years. Then this year, I found out that I was a good candidate for this surger...

How does one afford this surgery??
I keep hearing that this surgery is not usually covered by insurance. For me, it's not medically necessary, but I am really self-conscious about my open bite and the shape of my jaw/chin. I would love to have this surgery, but I have no idea how I will ever be able to afford this

Thank you for your response, Danny! It was very helpful. Unfortunately, my employer does not provide us with paid sick time, so my only options were to use vacation time or take unpaid leave. I think I will just apply for FMLA and then file for state disability so that I can get SOME kind of income....

Hi Guys! Newbie here! So I'm thinking of getting this surgery to fix an anterior open bite. For those of you who've had it already, how much time did you need to take off work/school? I would like to take at least 3 weeks just to be safe, because I really don't want to go to work looking like a swol...
