Re: Wired Jaw - some questions
I wasn't wired or banded at all! I know its not the norm, but I was able to talk, even though I couldn't open very wide. While I understand not wanting to publicize your surgery & personal information, your classmates will certainly bs able tell that you've had something done. I give briefings d...

Re: numbness in the jaw
I can say, that the numbness isn't that bad. 4-months post-op and I still have no feeling on one side. You have to be a little more careful about not biting you lip (for me the bottom left side), but my surgeon swears I could still get some feeling back. Even if I don't, it's not a major issue. I do...

Re: Recovery time?
I don't know about everyone, but I'm almost 4 mos post-op, and I do still have some swelling. It's not extremely noticeable, but I see it. Anyways, I think you should be fine in 3 weeks. Even with some pretty bad complications I was back to work in 4 weeks (& I spent 9 days in the hospital). You...

Re: Weight lose after surgery
I am a little more than 6 weeks post-op, and I am still on a no-chew diet. I had a BSSO and genio, and a few complications. However, I'm officially 23 lbs down from my "official" pre-op weigh-in. I don't have any problems getting my calories now. For the first 4 days I didn't want to move ...

Re: Underbite and Long face / Increased Lower Facial Height
I just had a BSSO and Genioplasty to fix some asymetry and my lower facial height. My face certainly is less elongated. Its a little weird to me actually, since before I would have said that my face shape was more oval, and now its more square (no its not the swelling).... Honestly, its strange to l...

Re: Nervous re mandibular advancement surgery - advice?
No one can tell you with absolute certainty about any outcome. Especially with the human body. Overbites with protrusion have a significantly greater risk of injury or damage to the incisors compared to individuals without protrusion. So basically, yes, I would say that you are at a significant risk...

Re: Surgery even though perfect bite?
Sojen, I was one of those folks that an orthodontist tried to fix my facial asymmetry with braces alone... twice. Now, more than 15 years later Im still having to have the surgery that 2 orthodontists spent years trying to avoid. Not only were my problems masked, but the unveiling of the real issues...

Re: October 2011 Surgery Buddies?
So, I've been reading all of the posts here for several months, without much to say so I haven't registered... but I am officially having my BSSO (setback) on October 12th!! It hasn't been that long of a road for me. Most of the other members seem to have gone through quite a process to get to this ...
