Question about adult palatal expander
So I started my orthodontic journey when I was 19, and I am now 20. When my journey began, my upper palate was 10mm too narrow, and my teeth were extremely crowded. My orthodontist suggested that SARPE may be necessary, but he wanted to try just the expander before going the surgical route. He said ...

Re: Very worried..please help!
Ugh I just checked my voicemail, and sure enough, I had one from my ortho saying that one of his assistants forgot to tie in my wire. They're only open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I guess I'll go in Friday and hope this doesn't delay treatment too much. I'm so livid right now.

Very worried..please help!
So I have had ceramic braces on my top teeth since May, and I just got metal on the bottom yesterday. When I first sat down, the assistant seemed to be removing the elastic ligatures on my top teeth. I thought this was a little strange considering I just got them and my wire changed on the 11th. How...

Re: Day 4 in braces..feel no pressure on teeth?
Thanks guys! Here's to hoping we all just have tough mouths :D I'd hate for us to go back in a month and have them say "oops, we messed up here" and have a month wasted. Most of us are already a lot older than the average person in braces, so we want them off ASAP. Good luck everyone and I...

Day 4 in braces..feel no pressure on teeth?
Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've posted here. I'm finally done turning my expander after I maxed out 2 of them. My ortho said that I spent more time in an expander than anyone he knew. Braces are finally on, and I opted for the clear ceramic. From what I've heard and what the assistants/or...

Hole on roof of my mouth from palate expander??
Hey everyone, I've posted about my troubles with orthodontics so far, and I have more bad and some possibly good? I got fitted for another expander this past week, and when they took off the old one, there was what seemed like a deep hole in the roof of my mouth. I asked the assistant about it and s...

Re: Feeling hopeless; My story
TumbleDryLow, My upper teeth are exactly 10mm more narrow than average as well lol your teeth look amazing! I don't need my teeth to be completely textbook perfect, i just want them to look normal. Also, I believe a wide smile just doesn't suit some people's faces and i feel like I'm one of them. A ...

Re: Feeling hopeless; My story
I would bet any money that mine are 100% fused. One of my premolars is tipped so far out it looks like its gonna fall out of my jaw. I asked my ortho why and he didnt really give an answer. I think he forgets who i am because every time i walk in he asks my age and the same questions. Not at all try...

Feeling hopeless; My story
Hey everyone! I've posted a little here and there, but I would like to go a little more into depth about my situation and how much of a struggle orthodontics has been for me. I'm 19, I have severe crowding on top, moderate on bottom. Under bite, open bite, cross bites, and my upper jaw is extremely ...

Re: Should I stop turning my expander?
Thank you everybody for the answers! I decided to stop turning my expander about 4 days ago, and had my ortho appointment today. He seemed a little irritated that I stopped turning and said "You can hardly ever get too much expansion, so we'll keep turning" I'm pretty dissapointed because ...

Should I stop turning my expander?
Hi everyone, I' m a 19 year old male and I've had my expander for about a month now. At my first checkup on the 5th of this month, my ortho told me that we were getting great expansion. However, now I'm starting to notice some problems. the wire that they hook around the first premolar is no longer ...

Are spacers supposed to hurt your jaw?
Hi, so I found an orthodontist that is willing to try an expander rather than taking the jaw surgery route. He asked me in the consultation if I have clicking and popping in my jaw, and i told him sometimes. He just wrote it down and didn't bring it back up. They put the spacers on and they felt fin...

Should I get insurance?
Ok so I'm 19, so I really don't have much knowledge of insurance or how it works, so if you could help me, I would really appreciate it. I'm currently trying to begin my journey to having straight teeth. I have had a cosult with an ortho and he told me I would probably need jaw surgery and braces. I...

Re: Do I HAVE to get surgery?
Thank you very much for the reply! Something that I forgot to mention is that I do not have insurance, and I am no longer covered under my parents'. I was told surgery could be around 20,000, which is definitely not doable for me :/
