Re: Elastics cause bite to come apart? Need reassurance
Hi everyone. I've had braces for 1 year. I had a topic in "Our Braces Stories" but I haven't updated it in months because my "progress" has been not so good. I was wearing elastics for a couple months before stopping them for a while and now my orthodontist says to put them back...

Re: Should I look for a new orthodontist?
Yeah that's what my understanding of extrusion is. You can see my story in the link in my signature. be forewarned...I haven't had a classic treatment progression either!! As I type this, my right side has just become more prominent. Since I was just in the ortho chair a couple days ago with these ...

Re: Should I look for a new orthodontist?
Update: I had a good session with my orthodontist today and so I'm feeling better about things. There are time when I get really down about my progress, or lack of it. Occasionally I get so frustrated I think I need to look for another dentist. But there's something to be said for being patient, whi...

Re: Should I look for a new orthodontist?
I agree the ortho should use professional terms. It helps when we need to google it. Clo's story scared me, because I will need my teeth extruded some...but I'm not sure which teeth will be extruded and which should remain where they are. You better believe I will have that clarified before I leave...

Re: Should I look for a new orthodontist?
Kipepeo: I just read Clo's never ending brace story. It sounds like it could be my story too. I learned a lot from reading everything, including the fact that changing ortho is not a solution unless you find the right one. It seems like such a hit or miss prospect and while they experiment on your m...

Re: Bite Issue
Hi Jester321: I couldn't link to your images, but I have the same problem as you. Horrible bite that first required some jaw alignment, then braces. I'm not sure what your question is, but thought I'd respond so you know you're not alone. I just posted a question, 'Should I look for a new orthodonis...

Re: Should I look for a new orthodontist?
You have to be very careful extruding teeth because they can't easily be intruded. Thank you for your reply Kipepeo. I am embarrassed to say how little I know about the process that is taking place. For example, I hadn't heard the term 'extruded or intruded teeth' before your post. When it comes to...

Should I look for a new orthodontist?
Greetings all: I'm very discouraged about my orthodontist and need some feedback. A little background - I'll try to be concise, but it's complicated. (Just to let you know I have 3 dentists (regular, ortho and prostho) who all know and consult with each other.) I've had braces for over a year for a ...

Re: Tips for eating with braces
How does everyone deal with the aftermath of eating? I always have so much food stuck in my braces! The best way I've found is to use my WaterPik right after eating, even if I don't brush right away. Then when I know I'm done eating for the evening, I use an electric toothbrush. Then use the WaterPi...

Re: Lia 77's story (with pictures of course!)
Thanks for posting your photos. Your teeth look similar to mine; I just haven't been brave enough to post photos yet. My mouth is actually worse because my bite is so wonky. My dentist had to build up three teeth so I could have something like a real bite. The inside of my mouth looks like a disaste...

Re: Tips for eating with braces
Yeah, I was hoping for the weight loss thing too. But I'm afraid I'm eating more carbs than I normally do since they tend to be softer. Potatoes, pasta, etc. One thing that is different is I don't snack as much because everything gets stuck in the brackets and it makes me think before putting someth...

Re: I'm 64 and just got braces.
Three cheers for all the old folks in braces! :jump: It takes a lot of guts to do this at our age. I'm starting to get adjusted to wearing them and the inconveniences, but I am also very appreciative of the fact that I have good dentists and the ability to take care of my teeth now. For too many yea...

Re: I'm 64 and just got braces.
Redfern: Boy, do I know about wonky bites. I don't remember if it's in this post where I told about having to get 'fangs' to have a flat enough bite to chew properly. I had to have three of my lower teeth built up (they look like fangs to me  ) after they removed a special splint I spent three...

Re: Listening to that little voice
I found out why such a long time before my second appointment. I got to go in today and ask all my questions and I'm feeling much better about the whole thing. My braces are from a new 3M technology called Unitech with a Smart Clip. There's no ligature and it has a Nitenol wire for the first 12 week...
