Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??

Mine was yesterday morning. Things went great! I'm sort of high on painkillers atm but feel free to follow my blog once I'm sober enough to update it!

Yeah, it's a safety precaution; double jaw surgery is pretty traumatic, so they need it just in case. For those getting only one jaw done, it isn't quite as necessary, especially if you're young and healthy, according to my OS. There's just not as much bleeding in those cases.

Re: Coping with severe open-bite

oh hi coffeecups :gavel: Yeah that's basically what we do: we compensate. My speech is pretty decent, but I do have issues with biting my tongue, and speaking more than a dozen or so words in a row with clarity the entire time. Since I've had an open bite for the time my jaw was growing (from 14 on;...

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??

Sounds like me, BaliGirl, except mine's only a one-piece Lefort. Seems to me the hospital stay is really only necessary for the big cases, like double-jaw surgery etc., because my surgeon is also doing it in his office and expects me to be able to go home later that day. I'm taking more time off tho...

It only took two weeks, but we filed an appeal (which failed), so it took longer. Guess it depends on where in the country you are.

Re: scared of making the wrong choice!

yeah, extractions are sometimes necessary. I had to get seven (all bottom molars) before I could get braces, before I could get surgery, before I can get implants to replace them. of course it sucks, but I just think of it as one little hurdle on the way to where I want to be.

(sorry, can't edit posts yet)

did I say 10mm? that seems a bit of an overestimation, but it's bad. I'll be sure to get all the nuts and bolts from my surgeon today.

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??

hey hi howdy. I'm having mine on 12/1. Today is actually my first pre-surgery appointment (of two; the second is in 12 days). I'm getting at the very least a Lefort I plus my upper wisdom teeth out, as I have a very severe (10mm+) open bite and removing my wisdom teeth along with the Lefort will giv...
