Re: Hello!

So - not quite ahead of schedule (in fact, nowhere near - they're still on, a year and 8 days later). But I'm on the 4 week count-down to de-bracing now, and am very excited - I'll take more pictures before they come off, I haven't been very diligent in tracking progress recently! I'm pleased with t...

6 months in and lots of progress:

My ortho says we'll be finishing ahead of schedule which means they'll be off by Christmas. Yay!

Re: What do you call this process. Possible malpractice

Adjustments hurt - they really do - but it's only temporary. My ortho pushes each end of the arch wire through the little tubes on the very back brackets, then uses needle-nose pliers to push the wire firmly into each bracket, to make sure it's settled before putting a ligature on, and any slack pop...

Re: Hi, I'm Bianca ....

Yes, a little bit, more towards each adjustment appointment as the teeth straighten out and the excess wire slides through the bracket. Wax is my friend :D

Re: How long from records/impressions until "brace day"?

I had my initial consult in November, records / impressions done 21 December, then braced on 23 January - my ortho sent me the treatment plant / photos / contraindications etc., then I had to return the form to say I wanted to go ahead. So about 4.5 weeks between records and braces, including Christ...

Re: Hi, I'm Bianca ....

Hi :D I have the brackets glued onto my back teeth, my ortho says he prefers them to molar bands. On the top I have ceramic brackets so only the very back ones are metal. On the bottom they're all metal, and he's bonded brackets to the two back teeth on each side, rather than just the furthest one, ...

Re: Hello!

Dammit. They're still huge. Maybe I'll post a proper update tomorrow! It doesn't look like there have been massive changes. But the lateral incisors are moving closer to the central incisors, and rotating a bit. The first pre-molars on both sides were out of line with the rest of the arch, and twist...

Re: Hello! (updated with pictures - 19 April)

Hi again! So, I think I now have sufficient user priviledges to post pictures - I hope this works! Just got my lowers braced today and I'm feeling sorry for myself (and also embarrassed about just how wonky they look - the wire doesn't lie!). New powerchain on the top too. Pre-braces http://i1267.ph...

Re: Ceramic uppers, metal lowers. Why?

I was also told it was to protect the backs of my upper front teeth - my lowers are too close and ceramic brackets would have chipped them. I keep pushing for ceramics because my lower teeth are still quite visible when I talk, but my ortho won't budge. Interestingly, when I asked what would stain t...

Re: Hello!

Hi all! Just thought I'd post an update in case anyone was at the same stage - I tried posting pictures after Brace Day but I don't think I have enough priviledges yet. So, Brace Day was fine, had a few panic moments with creaky teeth in the next week, and settled in to the first 4 weeks well enough...

Re: First week "care kit" ??

Hi! I've been stocking up on bananas, yoghurt, rice pudding, fruit puree (in the baby food section in my supermarket!), and made some vegetable soup. Rice is easy. Scrambled eggs are filling, and Super Noodles are also good, because you don't need to chew much. (I'm not sure if you're in the UK thou...

Re: Teeth being moved too quickly?

Thanks everyone, I feel much better now - my teeth aren't clicking as much and I they're not nearly as sore - as long as I chew everything on the back ones, that is. The brackets finally feel a bit more "normal" in my mouth, hurrah!

Teeth being moved too quickly?

I know, I know - I've only had the braces 3 days and already I'm worried. My teeth are very sore, and if I bite down I can feel / hear them creaking. My next 2 appointments have been scheduled at 4 week intervals - so 20 Feb and 19 March. I'm worried that this won't give the creaky teeth time to &qu...

Re: Hello!

Hi! Thanks for your interest. Brace Day is set for 23 January, upper ceramics only to start with - we need to make room for metal brackets on the lower teeth, so they'll go on in a few months. This might involve a small bonded bite block (or something) on the back of an upper front tooth for a month...
