I've read posts and this forum, and blogs by jaw surgery patients, and when I try to figure out how they paid for the surgery/braces I see that they're in Canada/Australia/England. I just finished college and it all seems so far away, but I'll be looking for work soon, ho...

I hope you have someone to lend you their support through this experience. If it's not someone close to you, maybe someone who can be on the phone with you prior to your doctor visit.

To the OP, best of luck. As many have, I'd recommend seeing a therapist for your depression, so that if you do consult with a surgeon you don't think it will solve all the problems you may have. A lot of us are on the same train as you, chin up!

Good to hear. I would have called up my doctor and straight up asked him, in case he/she though it would be a major issue. Maybe a reschedule would have been in order.
