Re: Surgery Today! Wish me luck :)
Good luck! I had SARPE about three years ago. At the time I remember being so self-conscious with my speech, and the way I looked with the dreaded gap. But, truth be told, the time actually went by decently fast and now it's just a distant memory, especially now that my braces are off and both surge...

Re: Before and After Pics (SARPE & Upper and Lower...)
If you read my post above, I mentioned that I ended up doing a photo shoot for a dental company called DenMat for their product called Lumineers. Once my braces came off I had some cosmetic dental work done (a little reward to myself for going through two surgeries!). Anyhow, I Just got to see the a...

Re: Before and After Pics (SARPE & Upper and Lower...)
@bracedupgabster : You're well on your way! Congrats! I remember crying after SARPE when my gap was HUGE because it felt like I'd never be done with it all and I felt so ugly. I had to remind myself every.single.day that I wanted it, and it'd be worth the wait. At least I had been hoping it'd be wor...

Re: Before and After Pics (SARPE & Upper and Lower...)
Ya'll know how to make a girl feel good! To say I am happy with the results is an understatement. It was worth every gosh darn penny, and all the pain and hassle! I'd do it all over again, I don't think I've ever been this happy!

Re: Intro - And questions about BSSO and SARPE Timeline
The original time frame I was given was about two years, but it ended up being about three. My orthodontist had predicted my surgery would be in April of 2011, and it ended up being in December of 2011. He originally said I'd be in braces 6 months post-op, but they didn't come off for another 11 mon...

Before and After Pics (SARPE & Upper and Lower...)
Hi Guys, I began my journey just about three years ago. It began with SARPE surgery in April, 2010 and then Upper and Lower jaw surgery in December 2011. I was pretty much born with one of the worst mouth situations ever. Not only did my jaws not align properly, I also had deformed/discolored teeth ...

Re: How do people come up with the money (just curious)?
I was 18 when I first learned of the surgery, and that I'd benefit from it, and I wasn't able to start the process until I was 27, due largely to the financial aspect of it. I knew it was going to be a long road with multiple procedures- April 2010 - SARPE surgery, September 2010, braces went on, De...

Re: Swelling - 5 weeks
I really don't remember when all the swelling dissipated after my SARPE but I do remember that it took a couple of months for the gap to close completely. It started closing right after I stopped turning- it just took some time.

Re: August '11 Surgery - Now Have Deband Date
Thanks for the update! I am 6 weeks post-op from upper/lower jaw surgery and it is always reassuring to read posts from people who are further into their recovery than I am. I bet you are so excited to get rid of the braces! What is a hawley? I haven't heard of that before. From what I've read, 6 mo...

Re: Surgery with Arnett/Gunson scheduled, no insurance. : (
From what I've found anybody who does orthognathic surgery with any regularity and is highly skilled does NOT contract with medical insurance (arnett, wolford, etc.). The ones who are trained for it and are in-network are trained OMFS's but do primarily wisdom teeth and implant with a few jaw surge...

Re: Pain Meds After Surgery
I had a big bottle of liquid vicodin (hydrocodone) and if that's what you get... just a heads up that it tastes AWFUL! And if you have to do it via syringe like I did because I was banded shut, you can't just chug it to get it over with quickly. It took forever to get it down with the syringe.

Re: unable to close lips without strain
I have the SAME problem right now. I had a terrible lip incompetence prior to surgery. I am 4 weeks post-op and my lips still don't meet. My surgeon has said it is due to scar tissue and told me to put some warm heat on it, massage it, and gently tug on my lips. He's been doing these surgeries for p...

Re: Going crazy!!! Were you sure you wanted surgery?
I say.... IF you have an oral surgeon that you absolutely trust, do it. don't wait! I knew I needed the surgery when I was 17 or 18 but due to various reasons, just had it done a month ago (I'm 28 now). I had a 3 piece LeFort 1, and BSSO. The first week sucks, the second week it starts to get better...

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
It was officially one month post-op yesterday! I went to the OS today and he cleared me for soft chew but told me I need to see a physical therapist. I didn't realize they did such therapy for a mouth, but they do!
How is everybody doing?

Re: SARPE Surgery
Believe it or not, my gap closed completely, and then some, before the braces even went on! Once I was done turning, my teeth started moving back together pretty quickly. Before I knew it, my two front teeth were overlapping!! And they had never been that way to start. I was a teacher at the time of...
