Re: Newbie here- Dr. Gunson and insurance
I think there is a misunderstanding, Arnett/Gunson accept insurance but they're not in any insurance network. This is pretty common for most surgeons. What it means is that in your insurance policy it will only be covered under "out of network."

Re: HOW TO PAY FOR SURGERY
Good luck, just remember none of them will cover pre-existing conditions, but if you were covered under a different policy most of them won't consider it a pre-existing condition. They won't tell you this unless you ask. Does that make sense?

Re: HOW TO PAY FOR SURGERY
You need to look into their policies on pre-existing conditions. Most of them will still cover you if you had at least a year of coverage under a previous policy. You should call them and ask about this specifically, because they won't tell you otherwise. Also look into other public insurance and as...

Re: Surgeries with Arnett/Gunson Anyone?
I'm also getting surgery with Dr. Gunson. He is the only surgeon I've talked to who seems to have a coherent treatment plan for my open bite. I saw a local surgeon who wanted to do veneers on almost all my teeth (crazy) and Dr. Wolford, who wanted to do total joint replacement. Dr. Gunson's treatmen...

Re: Can't open my mouth
This could be a problem with your TMJs, you should definitely go see a doctor about it if you can.

Re: Coping with severe open-bite
Just curious if you knew why the open bite had increased.
I don't know why it's increased. Dr. Gunson says it's likely idiopathic condylar resorption (although x-rays show my condyles are only slightly worn down) plus that my upper jaw curves up slightly. My chin h...

Re: Coping with severe open-bite
Sliding from "s" into the "sh" seems to help a lot. I think I still need to practice though to get it to sound right. I have the same trouble with eating. There are some foods that I just won't even try to eat anymore, like fajitas. I usually try to cut up everything with a fork ...

Re: Coping with severe open-bite
Thanks so much for your reply, it is really reassuring to hear your story. If you could go 21 years with a 7mm open bite, I'm sure I'll be able to adjust. Do you have any more advice about speaking? I can't seem to find a way to say the "sh" "ch" and "j" sounds normally...

Coping with severe open-bite
This past year my bite opened up dramatically. The opening in my bite is around 4 mm currently, and only my very back teeth touch. When they do touch, they don't feel like they fit together at all and it's extremely uncomfortable. My orthodontist just told me that my planned orthodontics will open m...
