Re: sarpe vs extractions
I just had SARPE (in a 3 piece le fort1 style) done a month ago today. My ortho would not take me on without my doing it. FYI, a SARPE and 3-piece LeFort are two entirely different surgeries; a LeFort is not a "style" of SARPE. In a SARPE, the surgery consists of making an incision in the...

Re: sarpe vs extractions
I just had SARPE (in a 3 piece le fort1 style) done a month ago today. My ortho would not take me on without my doing it. Pulling teeth was not brought up, but given a choice, I'd rather have the surgery. In my mind, one a healthy tooth is gone, it's gone. May I ask how old you are? Simply because, ...

Re: Anyone seen those new 'Water Flossers'...?
I have one. My ortho actually recommended it and had some $10 off coupons. It works really well for me. My teeth were so tight that it was almost impossible to floss. I use this and I can see the stuff it gets out when I spit the water out. I can even use it around my metal bands and where the arms ...

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
SM-Your profile looks AMAZING! Glad to hear your recovery is going well, minus a few hiccups. I'm doing MUCH better after being on more antibiotics and Mucinex D, I can breathe out of my nose again and not feel like the cavities are going to explode from the sinus pressure. :jump: I AM a little nerv...

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
It has been almost 3 weeks since I had my Le Fort 1 and everything was going okay until Monday. My husband got sick and so then of course I did too :( The worst part is I'm still swollen in my sinus cavities from the surgery and now with this they feel like they are going to explode from the pressur...

Re: Can I get BRACES and keep all my teeth?
Like others have said, you would need to get a consult first. Maybe a few consults. In my case I needed surgery with a palatal expander. Is it painful? yes. But for me, I would rather do the surgery than pull my teeth. Don't let fear of the unknown stop you.

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
L4-Are you banded shut? I ask because I see you had a le fort done. I had that done and have been drinking from a cup for about 5ish days now. I just try to make sure it's plastic, as I can't feel my upper teeth and am scared to use glass.

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
Had my surgery done on Friday. Everything went well and I came home that night. Only one nose bleed so far (knock on wood) The worst part for me is barely being able to drink anything , even water. Every time I swallow, my tongue hits the expander and shift the bones around. My face is also VERY swo...

Re: Question about SARPE
Thanks everyone. I reminded the surgeon about the low platelets when I when I saw him and he did write it down. I know everything will be fine, I guess I'm just having per-surgery jitters. I just have to keep reminding myself how awesome it will be to have all my upper teeth fitting nicely in the ro...

Re: Question about SARPE
I'll call them up this week to see. I'm really nervous because I run low/normal platelets, which just means I bleed a little more easily than most. I don't think there is an alternative. The oral surgeon wants to do both upper and lower surgery where as the ortho wants to try just the upper first an...

Question about SARPE
I just found this site a couple of days ago and REALLY wish I had discovered it before my last consult before my surgery. I will be having SARPE on 12/16. I'm really nervous about the clots properly forming and have read that a lot of people feel like they have a stuffy nose the first couple of nigh...
