Re: Getting very discouraged and almost wanting to take them

I was expecting him to get more mad at her for hitting my bracket off, but I cant scream at the girl. He did say " Sometimes accidents happen " First, I don't see a bracket coming off as a huge deal -- it wasn't permanent damage - and maybe it would have come off when you were brushing or...

Re: When do I stop with the elastics?

I would fully expect that the ortho would TELL you when to change the duration of elastic wearing at one of your regular appointments. At a minimum, ask her how you would tell it's 'time' to make the change. You don't want to make the change too soon and have a longer overall duration in braces beca...

Re: In braces for 12 years straight, and now toothless smile

I guess I don't understand why nobody will see you to give you a consult/second opinion/etc. What does your current ortho say regarding an implant? If you need to make a 'talking appointment' so you can sit in the office with him to discuss treatment/etc, then just tell the scheduler that's what you...

Re: Not changing archwire

I got my braces in January. The upper wire is the same wire, though I get a new power chain on the front most every visit since he put that on (visit this week he didn't mess with it at all). My lower wire is the second wire I've had (no power chain). The only time all the ligatures were changed is ...

Re: What is your number?

3 years for me. And I was told they've only had 2 adult patients 'finish early' (I didn't have the guts to ask how many total adult patients -- but it was clear 2 was a very very very small percentage).
I'm doing it primarily for bite reasons - any cosmetic improvements are just lagniappe.

I just wanted to second this tip.
The braced do help me cut down on between meal snacks, though!

Re: Plleeasse tell me how long these bands & hooks on will h

If you're using enough wax that you think it might be a choking hazard, I think you may be using too much wax on each bracket. It should definitely be smaller than most multi-vitamin pills that you swallow. Mine didn't hurt for too long - and I resisted using wax initially so things would 'toughen u...

Re: Week 1: Bracket fell off & brackets hitting

I had a bracket fall off in the middle of the night, so it does happen. Then the ortho (I think) skipped a curing step and the replacement fell off when I was eating french fries (SO not a crunchy or sticky food!) on my way back to the office. It's stayed since. They'll likely get it back on within ...

Re: openbite 2 possible extrations advice please....

It's been only 2 months (since Jan 10, 2012) and already he's throwing in the towel on solving the problem with braces? doesn't sound like a well-thought out treatment plan. My first adjustment is next week, 8 weeks after I got my braces, so if he tells me 'so sorry, I can't do what we discussed' I'...

Re: red flags?

My alarm bells are going off and so is my gut. Thoughts? In general, I say to trust your spidey-senses! But you are presenting a very unusual situation, so this may just be the reaction to 'I have no idea how to deal with this' from the office manager. If your communications directly with the ortho...

Re: "Well, you did it to yourself..."

However, if he said "you did it to yourself" to me when I am in pain would be the same as saying I did it to myself if I broke my leg skiing (because I chose to ski), or got hurt in a car crash (because I chose to drive) etc. Except braces, in my case anyway, are for very legitimate denta...

Re: Braces in 4 days at the age of 26 and scared

It's ok to be nervous, and you already 'know' that this is a good thing. You just have to convince yourself of that on the side of the brain that's nervous! I hope you have a decent support system near you that you can trust. It really can make a difference to have someone to lean on when you're fee...

Re: Chipped Lower Canine

Definitely talk to your ortho about the mouth guard (and mention why you think you should get it).
Fitted mouth guards are just that - fitted to your teeth, and with braces you're trying to move your teeth, so many (if not all) mouthguards may work against what you're trying to do with your braces!
