Re: "Well, you did it to yourself..."
Oh Klobird you're the best. :D My husband is generally disinterested in my braces journey but is sympathetic when I'm especially uncomfortable (which thankfully isn't too often) but like last week I had my lower wire changed to thicker and added chain elastics. Ouch! I can sure relate especially abo...

Re: ceramics and curry/coffee?
I am 8 weeks into having ceramic uppers and metal lowers with clear ligs. My first adjustment at 4 weeks I didn't really notice staining so opted to go with clear again. It has now been just over 4 weeks with my clear ligs and they are quite stained this time yellow/light brown. :yuck: I'm consideri...

Re: Does having Braces make you feel cool?
I'm 49 and can't say I'm particularly enjoying this process. I am definitely more comfortable with them now than in the beginning. Most of the time I forget I have them and very few people actually comment on them. So far my teeth have only moved slightly (or so it seems to me) which has been a bit ...

Re: OK--This was not the plan!
I am very new to braces, only being in them for exactly one week today. My orthodontist called the following day to check on how I was doing. I told him I was pleasantly surprised I had very little discomfort so far. He said oftentimes adults tolerate orthodontia better than children. I asked how so...

Re: Invisalign & Ceramic Braces: The Good, The Bad and the U
To clarify, I decided to go with traditional ceramic braces on the top and metal on the bottom. I have only been braced for a week today and so far I am pleasantly surprised with the experience. I have had minimal discomfort, much less than I expected at least so far. My greatest struggle is brushin...

Re: Invisalign & Ceramic Braces: The Good, The Bad and the U
Great information! Thanks for sharing. I had different evals before deciding my orthodontist. In my particular situation, consensus was I wasn't an ideal candidate for Invisilign but told I could have Invisilign on the top but would need traditional braces on the bottom. I have a friend who chose In...

Re: Can I get BRACES and keep all my teeth?
I was fully braced last week for the first time in my life at age 48 and no extractions are necessary for my orthodontia treatment. I did have my 4 wisdom teeth pulled when I was in my late teens. I remember my orthodontist talking about how he does not like to pull teeth unless absolutely necessary.

Re: 1980s attitudes about retention
It does seem like he was unprofessional and a "jerk." I grew up in the 70s/80s and I begged my family dentist to refer me to an orthodontist but he said my teeth were "fine." For years I just lived and generally accepted my less than perfect smile. I don't think orthodontia was a...

Re: ceramics and curry/coffee?
I am very new into braces, has only been a week today for me. I have ceramic uppers and metal lowers with clear ligatures. I drink 2-3 cups of coffee daily with cream and have not noticed any change in the color of the clear ligature. I do brush and/or waterpik often throughout the day and also drin...

Re: Feeling a little vain about getting started
I am 6 days into having braces for the first time at age 48 (ceramics on top, metal on bottom) with anticipated treatment time of 12-14 months. I too experienced comments from others asking why I was getting braces since my teeth were "fine." For many years I honestly didn't think much abo...

Re: Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?
I was braced for the first time 6 days ago at age 48. My projected treatment is 12-14 months. I am really hoping to have them off in time for my 50th.
