Re: routine hygienist visit
Kelly - I also have a regular cleaning coming up in April. The way they do it here is... I will stop by my orthodontist before my dental appointment and he will remove my archwires.... then I will go get my teeth cleaned and then return to ortho to have my wires put back on. My dentist and orthodont...

Re: Placing archwire 3 days after tooth extractions
I had my arch wires put in two hours after my extraction... I waited until the bleeding stopped and I could take the gauze out of my mouth. I did not have any problems at all. My orthodontist gave me the option of waiting 1-10 days to do the wires but I opted to just do it all at once and am glad I ...

Re: 1st adjustment and no new wire...
I had my first visit today - 5 weeks in - and my ortho changed my wire on top. I went up one size. He said I have lots of movement that still needs to take place on the bottom so it will be awhile until he makes any changes there. I go back again in 5 weeks. I have had a pretty bad headache since ab...

Re: New in the adult braces club.
Good Luck Ashca!
I am 53 and a newbie too.... I have had my braces on for one month.
Auco99 is right - the first few days/week can be a bit overwhelming, but it quickly gets better and becomes the new normal.
Let us know how it goes!!

Re: Braces at (almost) 49
Welcome elseegee! This forum is a great support. I, too, have found it to be a wealth of great information and I read it every night :) @ SueAsh - I have had my braces on for 4 weeks now and I am doing great! My mouth is not nearly as sore as it was in the beginning and I can eat almost anything if ...

Re: Dom's Story
My teeth are also very tight together and I have a great deal of difficulty getting the floss between my teeth - so when I do floss it is very time consuming. I use the oral b glide floss which helps a little bit. When I ask my dentist about a water pik - he told me that the waterpik information wil...

Re: Dom's Story
I just recently purchased the Ultra Waterpik from Amazon and I love it. The first time I used it - I was not sure I would like it.... I sprayed water all over myself, the counter and mirror :) Since then - I have figured out the finer techniques of using it and I think it works great. It does not ta...

Re: The Time Has Come
@plugnickle69 - I found your comments so interesting. I also believe that I am very emotionally stable and work in a profession where I help others who often are not - and I was shocked by how overwhelming the braces decsion was. At 53 years old - I believe this has been one of the most mentally tim...

Re: Braced after 20+ years of waiting
It is nice to know that you are not alone in this journey - and to know that others can relate to what you are going through. Before I found this board I thought that I was the only one my age that ever got braces. I was so amazed that there were so many "adults" on here. I had all my brac...

Re: Braced after 20+ years of waiting
Congratulations to both of you for taking this step! I am 53 years old - and after lots of deliberation - I just recently got braces on Jan 18, 2012. I have all metal - upper and lower - to correct an overjet and lower crowding. Even though I have always wanted my teeth straightened - I, too, found ...

Re: New braces at 64 years old!
I am 53 and just got my braces on one week ago today and had a tooth extraction 2 days ago. I also worried about getting braces at this age and people I talked to (including my adult children) acted like it was so silly. I was so happy to find this board and realize that there are lots of us older a...

Re: Braces and Weight Watchers
I had/have the same plan - to use my braces as an opportunity to lose a few pounds. I have had my braces (metal) on for one week and I have lost 4.5 pounds without trying. I did not anticipate having so much difficulty just chewing - even soft foods. I have also been limited to soft foods that I can...
