How many retainer check ups can I expect?
I get that these check ups are important but I thought my journey was over. How long do people have to keep going to their ortho after getting their retainers?

Re: Is it normal for retainers to scrap your gums slightly?
It hurts the gums just over the two front teeth. I have a plastic retainer btw.
It's like when I'm slipping them off they seem to press against my gums.

Is it normal for retainers to scrap your gums slightly?
So I got my braces taken off yesterday. Everything went ok except that my upper retainer hurts when it's put on or taken off. I think it's because of the gum between my two front teeth. When they came together, it caused a little line to form on my gums. My ortho suggested getting a frenectomy but I...

Is it normal to have an uneven gum line?
Here are a few pics of my teeth. As you can see, the gum line where my canine teeth (cuspids) are, they are uneven with each other. One is clearly lower than the other. Is this normal? Is there a name for this? P.S. - I stood very straight and still for these pics and did not tilt my head or move my...

Re: I've got good but strange news!
Oh, I see. In that case it's all good news. I still hope they're sure though. I only want these things coming off when it's time for them to come off.

I've got good but strange news!
Good news is: I've been told that I may be getting my braces off in a couple of weeks. If everything looks good to them during my next appointment I'll be getting them off and I'll be getting a retainer. Strange thing about it is: I'm not entirely sure I'm ready. I've brought this up once or twice b...
Hello, You've been wearing elastics for 3 years and still have an uneven bite? How much more time does you ortho suspect you will be in braces? Maybe you should consider another consult. That seems odd to me. I am not sure an uneven bite will cause just issues w...

Is an uneven bite unhealthy?
Hi. I've had to use elastics for about 3 years now if I'm not mistaken. I'm getting tired of this. I've recently (about 4 months ago) had to ask my orthodontist to change my elastics to a small size. I'm not sure if they would have had I not asked them. I'm starting to consider just leaving them as ...

How do you change your ortho?
I'm thinking about transferring to a closer ortho. The place I am at now was a recommendation but due to some personal problems I may not be able to make the trips to them. How do you do it? How do you make sure the other places will take your insurance? How do you break it to your ortho without sou...

My ortho filed my teeth without my permission
At first I thought it was to get some plague from between my teeth but when I checked it later I saw that two of my teeth for filed slightly. It's not really bad at all but I wish he said something before he did it. I don't like people making permanent changes to my body without my knowing or permis...
If it is bothering you, it couldn't hurt to call your ortho.
It's not bothering me due to pain or discomfort. Mainly just the thought of something being stuck there (again) is getting to me. I don't know if I want to bother them about food stuck between my teeth. [...

Food is stuck between my molar and bicuspid
For awhile a part of my gums between my molar and bicuspid was swollen. I didn't know what was causing the swelling so I kept brushing and paying special attention to that part of my gums. As the swelling went down I discovered that a popcorn shell was stuck between them. I managed to pluck it out a...

Questions about triangular elastics
Before I begin I would like to say that I did use the search feature but I could not find anything pertaining to my questions specifically. Hi, during my recent trip to the orthodontist I was told that I was in my final stages (yay!) and was given elastics which I have to apply on my braces in a tri...
