Re: New Braces Post Surgery?

I did not have a new set of braces put in after surgery. However at my first visit to the orthodontist post-op they discovered that 5 of my brackets had come loose without my noticing! So they had to replace those of course but the rest stayed the same. About half of my surgical hooks were attached ...

Re: February 2012 Surgery Buddies

Emdanut, I had my surgery back in September and developed a full body rash a few days post-op. My ortho thought it was probably a reaction to the antibiotic but my GP said they couldn't test to see exactly what I was allergic to. I found this disturbing as my surgeon said that the allergy could be ...

Re: How long after your surgery until the braces came off?

Before surgery (which was in February) my orthodontist told me he didn't think it would take more than six months. I forgot to ask him about it at my first ortho visit after the surgery but I'm hoping he'll say the same thing!

Re: So glad to be Canadian

No there were a couple things in the $2600 that our insurance said they would cover but the surgeon still charged us just in case. So we will get them back. Good luck with that. From what my surgeon told me was he let me in on the secret that insurances dont actually cover that, they just want to p...

Re: February 2012 Surgery Buddies

Hey everyone!! Sorry I have been MIA the past few weeks! Tomorrow I hit 5 weeks post op. Things have been going pretty good for me. Last week at my 4 week post op appointment my surgeon said that everything looked so great that they didn't need to see me this week. So my next appointment is on Tues...

Re: So glad to be Canadian

I live in the US and my insurance covered my surgery-- we had to pay about $2600 up front but we're expecting to get some of that back once all the insurance claims go through.

Re: February 2012 Surgery Buddies

As of Sunday night I'm completely rash free, thank goodness! i am getting really sick of soft foods though. I keep having dreams about eating crunchy fried food! I'm also getting really tired of my chin being numb haha. Most of the rest of the feeling in my jaw has come back except for the left side...

Re: February 2012 Surgery Buddies

I had my first post-op today The surgeon said everything is healing like it should. He put me in rubberbands in the front to guide my bite, but fortunately they're simple to put in. Unfortunately i seem to have developed a rash from one of my medications (probably the antibiotic) so the doctor took ...

Re: February 2012 Surgery Buddies

My surgery was on the 14th so I'm actually only 4 days past surgery.
I only had lower jaw though so I feel like I'm recovering more quickly than people here who had double surgery.
My surgeon originally said liquids for the first week and then transition to soft foods.

Re: February 2012 Surgery Buddies

I'm still having trouble sleeping but I do manage to take at least 2 30 min naps during the day which helps. I'm tired all the time but usually not tired enough to get to sleep, if that makes sense. When I woke up today I had the most pain I've had so far. It wasn't bad at all-- maybe a 4 on the 1-1...

Re: February 2012 Surgery Buddies

I unfortunately didn't sleep as well last night but I'm sure I'll take a nap later this afternoon I weighed myself last night and I had lost 4-5 lbs already. My mom made a very rich broccoli cheese soup for me that I can drink through a sippy cup. Its so rich though that I can't have huge amounts at...

Re: February 2012 Surgery Buddies

Also i may have a splint in over my back molars. I'm not sure though because I can't open my mouth enough to feel back there right now! My mom thinks I do though. I guess I'll find out at my first post-op appointment which is in 6 days.

Re: February 2012 Surgery Buddies

Catsteeth, I'm glad that I am able to be an encouragement to you! I'm sorry to hear your surgery will probably be delayed. I think I would've cried if that had happened to me! I actually got a great night of sleep last night-- i fell asleep around midnight and slept straight through without waking u...
