Re: Surgery vs teeth extraction--overbite

I think you should get surgery. If you get two upper teeth extracted, your bite will be off, your upper lip will lose fullness, your nasallabial angle will become more obtuse, and your airway will remain small.

Re: Long Face/Adenoid Facies Syndrome - Desperate for Soluti

I can relate to everything you said. You should see a surgeon ASAP. You're already 20-years-old, and your life is just passing you by with a face you detest. Jaw surgery is a long process, so you better start now in order to enjoy your new face while you're still young.

Re: Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?

Had them as a teenager and now have them again in my early 20s for jaw surgery. Really wish my first orthodontist had told me about jaw surgery. My guess is that he deliberately avoided doing so because he didn't want to deal with a surgical case.

Glad to hear you're happy. What kind of jaw movements did you have? Who was your surgeon?

Re: Wisdom teeth extraction and facial swelling

Swelling peaked at day 3 for my extractions, but my wisdom teeth were horizontally impacted, so consider that a worst case scenario.

Re: Would love to hear TMJ success stories!

Correcting the bite should help a lot. Basically, when the bite is off in any way, the muscles get strained a lot and become very tense, which is the cause of TMJ problems in many cases.

If you are willing to go to Santa Barabara, you can consult with Arnett and Gunson, who are supposed to be the best in the world. Of course, they'll probably recommend jaw surgery, since they tend to be aggressive.

Re: Surgery with Arnett/Gunson scheduled, no insurance. : (

I'm considering jaw surgery for an overbite, asymmetry, and gummy smile, purely for cosmetic issues. I met with a local surgeon and he recommended lower jaw surgery to fix my overbite. He acknowledged that I have mild asymmetry and a gummy smile, but he didn't think these were worth correcting becau...
