You look amazing! My current state looks pretty much identical to your 'pre' pics, and your pics make me optimistic for the future.

Re: The only ting that scares me is the risk of numbness?
Yeah the numbness from my genioplasty isn't like the dentist numbness. It did start out almost that bad, but the soft tissue numbness (lips) went away very very very quickly, if they were numb at all. I don't even remember if my bottom lip was ever numb. Mainly it is just that my teeth feel a bit st...

Re: The only ting that scares me is the risk of numbness?
The highest risk of lasting numbness is going to be if you have a genioplasty due to where they have to cut the bone. I had one seven years ago and all of the soft tissue feels fine but my lower teeth feel strange still, so there is a bit of numbness there.

Re: Jaw Surgery in the UK (London)
I have a Class III (underbite of I think 3mm?) and have seen two surgeons in the UK and neither would operate on me. Over 20 years ago I had braces so it looks better than it did before, but over time my teeth have moved back some. This means my front teeth touch and are being ground down slightly -...

Re: Le Fort I advancement or BSSO?
Well had a chat with the one who originally recommended BSSO and he now thinks that Le Fort I advancement and impaction is a good idea for me. Still going to see a 3rd doctor for his opinion but don't have a date yet on that...

Re: Le Fort I advancement or BSSO?
i consulted with more than half a dozen surgeons before finally settling on one. took close to a year. i understand nhs is not as flexible as US healthcare though it is "free." since you are going with a private doctor, take your time and choose one you are 100% comfortable with. I am goi...

Re: Le Fort I advancement or BSSO?
Thanks again! Yes that totally makes sense. However, since it doesn't look like I'll get this funded by the NHS here I'll have to pick my private surgeon. Hard to decide which route is best if different doctors tell me different things.

Shouldn't a cephalogram make it obvious (or cephalogram + impressions)? Or is it really an aesthetic thing sometimes?

Le Fort I advancement or BSSO?
Hi, all. I've spoken to two different surgeons and one recommended a BSSO and another recommended a Lefort I advancement. Why would they give conflicting recommendations? The Le Fort doctor said it would have a better aesthetic result since I am a bit flat in that area? I have a 3-4mm Class III malo...

Re: Anyone else accidentally bite lips or inside of cheeks?
Thanks for the kind replies. :) I don't have braces at the moment, but due remember some rubbing when I had them ages and ages ago! Currently I tend to bite the insides of my mouth in the lower lip area quite often - I suppose that makes sense due to the Class III. Also, it is just one side of my ch...

Re: Does Jaw surgery to shorten face really work?
Combing the hair down so you have bangs really shortens the face. For guys, facial hair can do it, too. And both are free. It does depend where your face is long, though. If you have a long mid section (i.e. is out of proportion to the forehead and the chin area), then bangs won't help, etc. Jaw su...

Re: NHS question (Class III and had braces as a teen)
Just a bump for an update. Saw my NHS dentist today and she didn't do a referral, either. She wants me to wear a mouth guard at night for a while and see if that fixes my jaw problems. Given that my teeth only touch on one side of my mouth when I chew, I fail to see how it will fix anything. Was bas...

Re: Long Face Syndrome- treatment in the UK?
Thanks so much, both of you. Much appreciated. Think I will go and see my dentist again and maybe be a bit more assertive about getting a referral. Thing is, I don't have much confidence in him as a dentist. Might be time to find a new one! Does anyone know if you can get a referral from a private ...

Re: Long Face Syndrome- treatment in the UK?
Frankie, I honestly don't know if long face syndrome is treated on the NHS (as a named condition). However, it does sound like you have real physiological problem that cause breathing problems, etc. Also, an overbite although the severity we can't tell by your post. You should ask your NHS dentist t...

Anyone else accidentally bite lips or inside of cheeks?
Hey all. :) I don't have braces at the moment, although I had them as a teenager. Have a mild Class III (underbite) which was 'corrected' and my teeth meet end to end now. The teeth did move back some since they were originally corrected to not look like an end to end bite. Anyone else accidentally ...
