Wishing you the best on November 7th...can't believe it but it's close to a year since I had my surgery, November 8, 2006. No regrets at all.

I had lower jaw advancement (7 mm) and genioplasty (reverse sliding) done November 8, and I can see the difference in the profile for sure already, though it's harder to see in the chin. I have a lot of swelling and numbness and it will probably be like that for awhile until I'm allowed more motion ...

open bite
Now that I think about it, the open bite was probably due to crowding that pushed the front part of my teeth forward (had four bicuspids removed in June 2005 to make room). There are no guarantees I guess as far as relapse, but this is where taking care of my teeth and jaws, and following my oral su...

open bite closed with orthodontics
I was originally told that I would need upper and lower jaw surgery for an open bite and overjet. At my most recent appt with my oral surgeon yesterday he said that my orthodontist closed my open bite with orthodontics and that I would likely only need lower jaw surgery (also mentioned genio to make...

clenching and grinding
You know, I was never aware of grinding my teeth at night, until my dentist gave me a hard plastic nightguard that I chewed six holes through. Since I've gotten my braces on I catch myself clenching if I'm really concentrating on something or when I'm waking up. I'm hoping a lot will be resolved wit...

weight
I too am thin. I'm also getting ready for jaw surgery, so don't want to lose weight. I would stay away from gum (broken brackets, wires). I would also recommend Ensure if you're OK with the taste. I drink a can a day and that's 250-350 calories. Still thin but I've gained a little bit so I'm doing p...

over the counter medicine dosage
I was taking Aleve for pain (cramps) and was following the prescribed dosage (1 pill every 6 hours), which did not take care of the pain. My doctor told me to take two Aleve every four hours. I'm a little afraid of that, even if it's only for a few days during the month. How closely should I pay att...

osteo
It was a long time before I began asking and informing the doctors of what concerned me, but it was mostly so all my doctors would be on the same page :) as me. I write my questions down before I go into the appointment, which helps a lot. Really helps with any "white coat phobias" I may h...

osteoporosis
I don't know about dental implants per se, but I've always written in "osteoporosis" when filling out new patient forms. I do encourage you to ask your doctor(s) any questions you may have and bring up topics that concern you even when not asked for the information.

osteoporosis
I'm 29 and I have osteoporosis (diagnosed at age 25) and I also have braces. I'm up for jaw surgery sometime next year. I'm on once a week Fosamax which has helped me gain some bone. Interesting question and not easily addressed. (In fact I think it's my post you saw before). I've been told it's not...

bad bite and jaw
I've had braces since last December. I'll be getting upper and lower jaw surgery next year for an open bite, overjet and crossbite, and I know my bite has been changing. I also know that my bite position is being changed into that which I'll have for after the surgery (which will mess things up with...
