At my last adjustment in August I had a different wire that was meant to push all my teeth out and a powerchain and zinc string. I ate pudding and ice cream for a week. Very painful. I am a little anxious about this Wednesday...to see what my ortho is going to do next. That wire really changed the w...

I have ceramics on top and metal on the bottom. I got the ceramics for the same reason many others...because I was already self concious and I am in a very public profession. About 6 - 8 months into my treatment I would have said that if I could have done it over I would have gotten all metal. Howev...

I am an educator in a 4th - 8th grade middle school in a very small town. The ortho that I use is the most widely used in the area...so needless to say when I go in for my appointments I frequently see students from my school and their parents. My son is also in braces and we frequently see people t...

It does get better! It seemed to me after about 2-3 weeks you just kind of accept them in your mouth. After 19 months it is almost hard to remember what it is like without them....almost! Once your teeth at the bottom straighten out it will be motivation to get through it. And, you will be surprised...

I think it depends on the strength of the chain. At first when my ortho put chains on I thought , geesh what's all the fuss about. Now when new chains go on my top teeth along with zinc string I am sore for about two days after each adjustment. If you are just starting your ortho may have started yo...

I switched to silver powerchains because I couldn't give up the coffee! But, my ortho has also been using zinc string under the power chain which turns yellow as soon as you breathe on it. I made the mistake of getting green tea the other day thinking how bad could it stain. BRIGHT YELLOW!!! ...

I have not had an interview with a new company or system, however, with the job that I have, I am kind of always on the interview. I know that I want to move up, so everytime I talk with or work with a higher up it is kind of like an interview. (if that makes sense) It shouldn't matter. Period!!! A ...

My ortho is trying to close an extraction gap. I have the continous loop (the one KK talked about) and then I have zinc string to pull it even tighter. The back power chain that comes from my molar overlaps the front power chain and on one tooth there are three chains of some sort. At my last adjust...

My son has had an expander for over a week now. I have the same problem. I now have him lay down on the sofa, shine a flashlight and do it really slow. I make sure that the key goes all the way to the back and then check to make sure the hole is open in the front. It is definetely more difficult tha...

I have had my braces on since Jan 05. My son got his braces on over a month ago and got his expander last week. It has actually been really helpful that I have had mine on because I understand what he is going through. I know he is not just complaining--kind of what we look for when we come to this ...

Getting ceramic or clear braces does not mean that you can't see them, because you can! I too am almost 40 (Oh that feels awful when I say that!) and am in a very public position. I have clear on top and metal on the bottom. Even when I smile, talk, laugh etc. you can hardly see the metal on the bot...

I agree it is a bit of a wierd feeling...kind of like I want to say something, but I know that I am self conscious so I don't say anything for fear that they are self concious. Recently, I was at my orthodontist getting an adjustment. I always make my appointment the first one of the day so I can ge...
