Re: Has anyone noticed an increase in plaque?

I was having a similar problem with plaque and the little brushes to clean food were getting big bits but not plaque. I got one of these and carry it around with me everywhere: http://www.cvs.com/shop/product-detail/CVS-Travel-Dental-Pick-Soft-Grip?skuId=695761 I found this works great as an after m...

Re: General dentist - frequency of visits

My regular dentist recommends every six months without braces, every four with. My orthodontist said she prefers every three months with braces. Its all a matter of how careful you are at keeping your braces clean. You can be sure your ortho will say something if he/she notices that you are in need ...

Re: Are orthodontic records necessary for proper treatment?

Yes, they're necessary and never "free" My consult + impressions and x-rays was $300 with the amount paid credited towards the cost of my treatment. Any orthos offering "free' impressions and x-rays almost certainly have the cost factored into their overall pricing.

Re: Picture of my before teeth ( a whole week and a half ago

I felt the same way going into mine, I thought they would never move, but surprise, surprise the movement started almost immediately and by my first follow up six weeks later the change was very apparent. Like auco99 said, keep your eye on the wire. The wire doesn't lie. Bit by bit you'll see the ja...

Re: Bottoms done !

I wonder will I always have to wear wax on my hooks or will my mouth get used to them :| Like you I started with my bottoms first and at first the hooks were driving me crazy to the point I asked my ortho if I could snip them off since I didn't see a need for them lol. I never thought I would get u...

Re: Elastics question?

It looks like this will line up all your upper and lower teeth and settle them into a final position. I suspect that i am going to need a configuration like this soon. My ortho first had me in a single box across the front teeth now has me in two boxes on each side but as I see changes happening and...

Re: Newbie Introduction

Hi Ellie! I live in Brooklyn and both my regular dentist and orthodontist is in Manhattan. My ortho is Dr Vaysman from Upper Eastside Orthodontists. I went with her on the recommendation of my primary dentist and am 100% satisfied with the service I've been receiving. I've had braces on my lower tee...

Re: went from a deep bite Class 1 to now having an open bite

I had something similar happen. When I got braces added to my bottom teeth only back in August I didn't have an open bite. My bottom teeth touched the top ones, despite being crooked. Six months later when I had braces added to my tops, My bottom teeth are pretty much straight but I now have an open...

Re: Movement in only one month!

Same thing happened to me. I got braces on my bottom row in August (tops added three months ago) and one tooth in particular was really crooked and pushed straight back by a bad tooth that I had to have pulled prior to getting the braces. In fact it was so crooked I inquired about getting it pulled ...

Re: Braces at last aged 51

At first it may feel like you'll never get used to them but you will. I got braced last August at 40 (lowers only) and for the first couple of weeks I kept asking myself what I had done. A couple of days in I was eating and promptly took a layer of skin off the inside of my cheek. I thought the irri...

Re: Do you think this is wrong of me?

[quote="Jerseygirl"]Thanks Chris! Very encouraging! As for the elastics - how do you talk with the 'box' position of bands? Also - how does your ortho say she will keep your bite closed after you are debraced? This is a concern of mine - since I don't know how my bite opened to begin with,...

Re: Braces after a breakup

Last August I got braces at 40 and going into it was pretty much accepting of the fact that the next 12-18th months (my sentence) would be spent without any kind of a dating life. In fact during my first appointment with my ortho when I was getting the impressions and x-rays done I joked about becom...

Re: How long until mouth feels more normal?

I've had my bottoms for eight months and my uppers for two and honestly, I am always aware that my mouth is full of "stuff", however I can also honestly say that I have gotten pretty used to it. It took me two followups (12 weeks) before I started feeling like I had adjusted to the bottoms...

Re: Eating with wax?

I have had braces on my lowers for eight months now and on my uppers for two months. With my lowers I needed to use the wax on and off for a couple of months and when I got the uppers I only needed it for a week or so. I was also hesitant about eating with it on and at first would remove it before e...

Re: Do you think this is wrong of me?

[quote="Jerseygirl"]I have become very talented with smiling and covering up just how bad my teeth really are. I can totally relate. For pretty much my whole life I have not been happy with my teeth and especially the bottoms in particular and spent many years refusing to smile and appeari...
