Re: Family members that put a "downer" on your treatment?!
My husband thought I was crazy. He said if it were up to him, he wouldn't do it. However, he's one of those people that feel surgery should be only done when absolutely necessary. He just worries about risks associated. He's the designated worrier in the relationship, lol! He was/is very good about ...

I'm scheduled for BSSO on Wednesday, April 30th. Kinda looking forward to it; kinda thinking what have I gotten into. My husband is freaking out.

Re: What to expect with an expander
I've been wearing a removable palatal expander for almost 8 weeks. My speaking has more or less gone back to normal (or perhaps found a new normal). The lisp has gone away; however, I do hiss with my 's' sounds. Some patients at work seem to have trouble understanding me (because they're older or En...

Re: Healthy eating tips when teeth hurt?
I eat spinach every day! Either in an egg wrap, florentine quiche or pureed as found in Indian dishes. I get a lot of my veggies through Indian food (my husband is Indian) so I eat a lot of veggies this way and tend to be cooked down a bit softer. Spinach does feel slimey sometimes, but I still eat ...

Re: Eating habits with braces!
After the initial pain of having my uppers braced, I've ate anything I've wanted. Eight weeks ago I began with a palatal expander (which is removable). Since I'm supposed to eat with the expander in, it has made it a bit more challenging to eat (sometimes I do remove it to eat). I like to eat nuts, ...

Re: Shopping list...
I purchased the dentakit which I carry around everywhere. I also have a make-up bag at work with toothbrush, toothpaste, mini mouthwash, floss and picks. I also keep lip balm and gum at work. We recently bought a water-pik my husband setup the other day... haven't tried it yet. I feel like I'm alway...

Re: Foods you try to get away with having braces...
I eat anything I want as well. I've only had one bracket pop off (I think it was because I was messing with it). I chew sugar-free xylitol gum or brush afterwards. We eat a lot of nuts in my home, so I just try to keep myself aware of how I bite and chew. Wow, lucky you! Doesn't it hurt? I have a h...

Re: composite on tooth?
My dentist put a composite resin on my lower right incisor before I went to ortho consults. I had chipped off my tooth a few times (this has been my second fix... broke off the 1st repiar years ago). She told me orthos would require it to be fixed before braces were applied. I haven't had lower brac...

Re: Stain-free lig colours?
I eat curry and turmeric containing foods almost daily (I eat a lot of Indian food). When I had clear ones, I didn't have a problem with staining. To be fair, when I had clears, it was in the beginning, so I was in the habit of brushing my teeth immediately after my last bite (now I'm not quite as c...

Re: My braces weight loss story
I've lost about 10 pounds. There are times I just don't wanna eat because of how food feels in my mouth or I don't want to deal with hygiene after. However, I'd probably lose more if I stopped eating the "off-limits" foods, haha!

Re: How Accurate are Orthodontist's on Treatment Time?
My estimate is 26-30 months. I saw my dentist a few weeks ago for a cleaning and she says I'm progressing well. She told me if go for adjustments as requested and follow my home care plan, she thinks I could be done in 18-20 months. I plan to ask the ortho her thoughts after the expander does it's j...

Re: Frustrated Need Opinions
Too bad about the extra time. However, I'm sure your dentist will talk him into not charging you. Since your dentist was treated by him, I'm sure she is a big referral base for him. If he still decides to charge you, he's probably gonna lose a referral stream.

Re: Today was my lucky day!!! I got braced!
When I got my braces, I was pretty stoked until the next morning... I went to Starbucks, ordered my usual spinach feta wrap (ouch)! Six days later I was still fairly sore when my hubs and I met up with some of his family for lunch. My hubs was concerned we'd have to change restaurant plans. It worke...

My story
I'm 35, female, from California and started with my braces 02/06/12 to correct a class II malocclusion. I currently have upper metal brackets. Yesterday, I had impressions made for an expander plate which I "pick up" in 2 weeks.... *groan* I never wondered what other people were going to s...
