Re: Please help me choose a bottom retainer!
I've had both fixed (upper and lower front six) and removable retainers (plastic trays) for the last four or so years. A few months ago, I noticed that when I was flossing between two upper teeth, the floss could go all the way up to the gum margin. This was because the upper fixed retainer had frac...

finally got invisalign....for two weeks only
Like most people, I wanted invisalign. I got fixed braces instead. Five years down the track since being debonded, my upper fixed retainer breaks. I go into the office three days ago and my ortho takes a look and says "...that tooth (a stubborn incisor that took almost the entire length of trea...

Re: Lingual Braces - Melbourne Australia
Hi Everyone, Don't suppose anybody has received a quote for upper lingual braces (lower normal braces) for under the $10,000 mark anywhere in Melbourne, Australia at all? My quotes have all been in the 'teens of thousands'. Quite a hefty outlay! I'm since done with treatment, but my quote back in 2...

Re: 1980s attitudes about retention
An interesting read, albeit rather pessimistic about the robustness of retainers. I've had fixed retainers on my front teeth for over four years now. The only time I get a little irritated with them is when food gets stuck, and that's not real often. My top essix retainer recently cracked and was re...

Why don't you ask your ortho directly.

When I was a teen they told me they couldn't fix the gummy smile, overbite, or overjet...those things would potentially require surgery that would result in a jutting jaw which would have to be shaved down (WTF?), whereas braces would fix only the gaps. I didn't want the surgery, and with my teeth ...

Re: LOOKING FOR cost effective LINGUAL BRACES SYDNEY
Sounds like you had a good deal on the GC. I shelled out the better part of $13K for linguals on top/ceramics on the bottom six years ago, but maybe things are different now in the current economic climate. While the ortho who treated me is still probably not the cheapest in town, he is certainly on...

Re: elastics
You can probably take it as given that your ortho plans to correct your overbite/jet but if you're wondering about when/whether elastics are part of this process, then there is no harm in asking about it.

Re: Temporary Retainer Question
I would discuss with your ortho exactly how many hours you need to wear it and if it's uncomfortable, perhaps there is some adjustment that can be made to it.

Alex
There was someone on this board a while back (Clo) who had 11 elastics at one point. That made my four look like a walk in the park.

Re: To those with lingual top and conventional bottom...
Something I have been wondering with regard to elastics... how do they work in this instance? Surely if you had them hooked from top to bottom they would be going from inside the teeth on the top to outside the teeth on the bottom so they would pass between your teeth and pull at a sideways angle? ...
