I started treatment in July 2005 and started working for my ortho in April 2006. I started as a receptionist but have been an assistant in training for a while now. I find orthodontia to be quite fascinating...who knew?

Hi Geb, I am 29f and had a very similar prescription. I had my bicuspids extracted and have had extensive elastic and headgear wear to hold and move my molars back as well as move my upper jaw back. It is a slow process. I was told I would see about 1mm/month if I followed instructions which I have ...

I don't know if others have noticed the same thing or not, but I have been amazed at the number of guys who have told me that they were totally "into" girls who wore braces.

I wear braces (including elastics and headgear) but have never worn an expander. I work in an ortho office and can tell you from patient experiences, that the expander is a lot more difficult to deal with than braces. I had one poor girl this week who had both installed at the same time. I felt so b...

I know right now, you are probably dreading the next 2 years, but believe it or not, the worst part of your entire treatment is probably behind you now.

Those spacers are a hell of an indoctrination into ortho.

Best of luck to you today. I think everyone who has gone through this has felt exactly how you feel right now and I would bet that most people who are well into their treatment would tell you that they are so glad that they went through with it. I was so nervous about getting braces that I put it of...

I have to agree. I have been wearing headgear since September. If you can get used to wearing it, the pain will subside over time. The hardest part for me was and still is trying to sleep with it on. I wish I was close to the end but it looks like I have about 6 more months with it. I wore cervical ...

I am 28 and got my braces 1 year ago. I was in the same boat as you taking a class that started the very next day. That day won't be the best day of your life but you will certainly be able to manage sitting in a class. After the first day or two, you should be fine. No sense in pushing things back ...

Speaking as a 28 yr old single woman who has been wearing braces for almost a year now, braces have little or no effect on dating unless you allow them to. I was worried about dating while having braces and truly it has been a non-issue. If anything, they have been good conversation starters. Good l...

I don't have any insurance and was working on a budget. I ended up putting $1000 down and making $200 monthly payments for 24 months. This was to include everything, and I have had a few things. I did get to skip 2 payments for 2 girls that I work with that I referred that ended up starting treatmen...

I am not pregnant, fortunately since I am not married, but my sister got pregnant while going through treatment. There are no major problems with doing it, however, like others have shared, you should make your ortho aware of it. Your gum tissue tends to be a lot more tender adn susceptible through ...

Back in September, I was fitted with a cervical hg that I was asked to wear "As much as possible." It took me a while to ramp up the time and as much as I hated it, I eventually got into a pretty good routine of just wearing it all the time when I am home. At my last appointment, my ortho ...

Powerchains

Well, I became the latest wearer of powerchains today. I got home from the ortho about 2 hours ago and can feel teh pressure today as much as my first day in braces. I'm guessing I'm in for a few days of soreness. All in the name of progress, I guess.

Joe,

I have been wearing cervical headgear since September. I went in for my adjustment today and my ortho said he may need to change it to combination or high pull to change the angle of pull. He didn't change it today but wants to keep an eye on it.

I'll be your hg buddy!
