Re: Anyone changed bracket types mid-treatment before?
I changed from ceramic top to metal top. Super happy about it too! I was given Chlorahexadin oral rinse which STAINED not only my teeth badly, but all the ceramics (or rather the adhesive which showed through). My orthodontist removed the clear ceramics, buffed my teeth, scrubbed them some more with...

Re: Coil springs
I too had a coil spring added recently. First it was a 10 (mm?) which was .. ... okay. I had to add wax like CRAZY to keep it from cutting my lip and cheek constantly. Then, this past week, I my ortho went to a 7 (mm) spring. Now - we are talking action. ALL my side and front teeth actively ache. An...

Re: Any teachers out there?
I'm a college professor. I've found that my college students tend to be about as observant as 4th graders. I now have metal uppers and lowers. Last week, I also gained this enormous spring (along with an upper powerchain across the entire arch), etc. Other than me stopping to have a drink of w...

Re:
For what its worth I found that it was a lot easier to get used to elastics when I wore them full time. Since June all of my elastics have been full time or as much as possible (which I have worn full time). It usually took a day or two for the soreness to go away but when I got part time elastics ...

Re: Scraping off glue under brackets
Recently, I had my upper ceramics replaced with metal. This was a long process to remove the ceramic (which often shatter everywhere), and then the scraping and polishing. None was the least bit painful. 'But, my teeth were settled and not tender (as they might be when I first have a new archwire or...

Re: Ceramic or metal .........hmmmmmmmm????
I am an adult (55) that originally had ceramic uppers and metal lowers. From the beginning, the ceramic were definitely clunkier and bulky. Because of staining from antibiotic mouthwash (for the TAD), it stained by teeth terribly and really centered on the ceramics. Last week, my orthodontist remove...

Re: TADs
I began using Class 2 elastics immediately. The TAD, once put in was as though it didn't exist. (As in no pain or issues at all). The elastics (I wear 24/7) made eating for a few days a little sore, but other than that, it just all just fine. But - as the other posts stated, it depends on your plan ...

Re: New User..Temporary Anchorage Device (TADs)
Hi there! I had a TAD within the first month of getting braces. (Shifting midline, which means moving all my upper teeth to the left and all my lower teeth to the right.) It was easy, relatively pain-free and since it keeps (on mine) the lower teeth from shifting (anchoring it) when I wear my class ...

Re: Swopping brace type
Have you checked into the training your orthodontist has? Are you seeing a an orthodontist trained in Functional Orthodontics? In my opinion, the orthodontist should be addressing your bite issues as well as straightening your teeth. I have TMJD issues and have found through my research and other c...

Re: When did you guys get elastics? Does it suck?
Anxiousgirl - I know what you mean. For the first month, I barely noticed any discomfort with my teeth. Then, when I began elastics -wow! Although my teeth did not ache throughout the day or night, eating anything more difficult than an egg was simply painful. But - it has been 10 days, and I can sa...

Re: When did you guys get elastics? Does it suck?
The one in the front???? Like there will be one right smack in the front of my mouth? Oh dear. I am already self conscious enough about the braces, and just getting used to them, and now I'm going to be paranoid about looking stupid all over again. I thought they'd be further back. Oohh no. If you ...

Re: Well, I did it - at 54 years old!
At one month, no I cannot tell much from photos. With the elastics, I have new wires. Although they said heavier wires, I didn't think to ask what gauge. Here is a photo - the day before braces. Then one the day of getting them on (June 21), and then today. The focus is on changing the bite and midl...

Dee17 and illay – Thanks for the responses! Dee17 – just think positive and go forward. Life is … whatever you want, whatever you are, and always – whatever you want it to be. I imagine that there will be ‘awkward’ moments at certain functions and events, but so what. In the end, I know I will be ha...

Re: TADs to intrude teeth?
I just had the TAD yesterday. One on the bottom with a sturdy wire tied to the back molar. I think it is supposed to hold the lowers steady while the elastics are shifting the top teeth to the left.
