Re: 31 year old dental assistant considering braces.
If your situation does not have any potential of taking a turn for the worse, based on the account you provided, I would spare myself of the expense, the tedium of adjustments/check-ups and the inconvenience of having to avoid certain foods. Have you been able to isolate the source of the shifting? ...

Re: may need braces soon, or a false alarm
I've been rather inactive on the forum since last year, the prescription for braces would later turn out to be a false alarm. I suppose there is still an outlying possibility that I may require some form of a corrective ortho appliance in the future. I do have a trivial overjet and my back molars ar...

Re: 31 year old dental assistant considering braces.
Anita, I was in a similar situation around this time last year, where I was in this rare "on-the-fence" position of not really NEEDING braces, but could potentially benefit from them. In the end, my teeth look fine and will only look into it again if Hollywood calls. But keep us posted! Greg

Re: may need braces soon, or a false alarm
Well I guess it was a false alarm, I will not be needing them, as the overbite is so minor that not only is it cosmetically unnoticeable, it hasn't even proven to cause irregular occlusion when I bite down. I am considering switching dentists. As someone who is considering the dental profession I sh...

Re: How do you keep your teeth looking white?
Crest "night effects" whitening gel is what I use. Since you can "paint" the stuff on with a mini-brush, you can get all of the nooks and crannies that the strips do not mold into (like the inner edges of your canines and on the cusp surfaces). Plus you can paint around your gums...

Re: Sensodyne Pronamel
After a bout with Crest WhiteStrips my gums and the roots of my teeth felt like they have been scuffed with sandpaper. Using this toothpaste felt like pouring a bucket of water on my flaming gums.

Re: Start of my braces journey at 66
Marie, please continue to keep us posted! I've also found an article regarding an increase in orthodontic activity for seniors. It's about 5 years old, but quite a read. What's more is that some of these people are in their mid 70's! Unfortunately I am still 2 posts from being privileged to post a d...

Anybody have some information on vintage ortho?
Recently I have been told that I might need braces, and I have been spending a lot of time over the past few days doing research and trying to get an idea of what I may be in for. Since I am a history buff, I also am curious about how orthodontic issues may have been treated in the past. I realize t...

Re: Has anyone ever said "NO" to the ortho?
Well I was advised by an orthodontist back when I was 18 that I needed braces for my upper jaw. I had a tongue thrusting problem in my sleep. I went against the orthos advice and never got them. However, I was able to stop the habit before things got out of hand and the issue seemed to have vanished...

Yes sensodyne is a very good idea when using WhiteStrips. My first month using them it looked like I had gingivitis. I actually opted for the "paint-on" solution that you can brush on much more accurately. But glad to hear your almost out of the woods, you have a wonderful blog here. Greg ...

Re: New and getting braces soon
Hi Leigh! I too am in my mid 20's and ignored my dentist's advice back in college. Though the verdict is still pending regarding my need for braces, I was advised to get invisalign at 18, but chose to take my chances, and lucked out. Now I am waiting with bated breath as my dentist analyzes my x-ray...

may need braces soon, or a false alarm
Hi there, I'm Greg, a 24 y/o accountant from the Northeast. I have been blessed with perfect teeth all my life, and never even had one filling. Everything changed when the wisdom teeth started forcing themselves into my jaw. Though no surgery was necessary, my dentist highly recommended looking into...
