Re: Six Month Smile Brace Just Fitted

I also have Six Month Smiles and bite guards, and can totally relate to how you're feeling. That's exactly how it was for me when I first got them put on. But don't worry, the discomfort does pass, and you WILL learn to eat with the bite guards. I remember how impossible it seemed. I imagined having...

Re: Arrrgggh 6 month smiles

I'm in the UK too and have SMS. Mine took about 4-5 weeks after having the moulds and x-rays etc. Must be frustrating for you, but I'm sure they'll be along soon. Enjoy being able to eat what you want while you can!

Re: Getting discouraged

I've had mine for about 6 weeks now and only saw movement in the last week or so, since I had a powerchain put on. That totally got them moving, though it seems to have plateaued again now.

Re: Brushing after every meal, good or bad?

Toasty79 are you going to continue this practice after your braces come off? I think so. As a child I was only ever taught to brush my teeth before bed, and once these habits are ingrained it's surprisingly hard to overcome them - it wasn't until my twenties I started making myself do it in the mor...

I think they look beautiful! I have SMS as well and if I have half as good a result I'll be very pleased.

Re: New to the boards!

Hang in there. As the others have said, after a week things should start to look up. For me it was a good two weeks before I realised I wasn't really noticing them any more: they weren't dominating every other thought, you know? I had my first adjustment yesterday though and now I'm back to square o...

Re: Most Difficult Foods to Eat

For me it's anything crunchy or hard. Soft stuff I'm OK with, and like a previous poster, I'm a stay-at-home mum so have time to clean food out whenever I need to (I use those little interdental brush thingies). I also haven't touched bread since I got my braces on. At first I coudln't chew at all, ...

Re: Brushing after every meal, good or bad?

I am no expert on this, and before braces I only brushed morning and night  but here's what I've been doing. I brush thoroughly in the morning and before bed. Then through the day I do 2-3 more gentle brushes, using a soft brush for sensitive teeth and not applying too much pressure. I do it a...

Re: Staining question

I don't know either of those products, but I feel your pain! My front teeth and brackets got VERY stained from using Corsodyl mouthwash in the first few days (I only used it because I had an extraction). It looked awful. Had it blasted off yesterday and I'm now using Arm and Hammer baking soda tooth...

Re: More self conscience than I thought

I've had mine on for a week and a half and I think the not caring has started. I was VERY self-conscious at first as they have affected my speech, but the last few days I've forgotten about them a few times :) One comment I do NOT expect to get is the one about "why do you have braces, your tee...

Re: Bite Blocks?

I've had mine a week and hate them! I can't chew at all. Well, I can *sort of* eat very small pieces of very soft foods, but it is so awkward and uncomfortable that I don't eat much.

Re: sharp wires totally sticking out and cutting me!

I have been having this issue too. Some days they really bother me, and then other days not at all. It's weird. I only have one little packet of wax so I'm rationing it until I go back next Thursday and can ask for more.
