Hey, I just got mine on today too! Feeling sore, but it sounds like your pain is worse. I just don't feel like chewing on anything right now...

How long are you expecting to wear your braces?

Two people I know just got braces. Also, since I've started telling people I'm going to get braces, another two or three people have told me they are thinking about it. It seems like it's snowballing- now that adult braces are more common, even more people are open to doing it.

I am leaning towards metal. When I was younger, I might have felt self-conscious about wearing braces, and wanted to go for the lower-profile look. As an adult, though, I am not worried about wearing braces. Might as well take the less expensive option (for me, anyway.)

Haven't started yet, but told it will be 18 months.

Thanks, that's good advice. I went for a consultation with a different ortho several years ago, which actually put me off doing orthodontics. That ortho immediately suggested jaw surgery, which I don't want to do unless it's necessary. The ortho I saw today said that the only reason to do jaw surger...

I had a wisdom tooth pulled a few years ago. It was way faster than I expected, and not too scary. I was able to eat at a restaurant the next day! The strangest part was the dentist tugging on my face... Don't worry, it will be okay!

Now I have to decide if I'm going to go through with it. The fact that the ortho does not want to do any extractions should make this a no-brainer, right?
