All done!!!

Just had my braces removed yesterday after nearly 18 months! Getting my retainers through on Monday or Tuesday. So pleased with the result. Ecstatic really! My husband loves it, my kids love it and I love it. I find myself trying to get used to smiling properly again as I never fully smiled with the...

Re: Eating in braces....

I think it varies by individual. I remember losing a lot of weight in the first couple of months simply because I couldn't eat much. My teeth have been tender quite a lot throughout the whole process. They have moved pretty quickly so I take the soreness as a good sign of progress! :)

Re: new addition!

Wow - it's been a looooong time since I was on this board. Apologies for not replying but it has been a bumpy half year or so. Unfortunately, I lost my little girl at 20 weeks in June. No signs of anything being off but found out that there was no longer a heartbeat or development at our routine sca...

Re: adjustment #2

Back from Adjustment #3 at 27 weeks (but 15 weeks pregnant!) Changed both top and bottom archwires. Bottom now has it's last archwire on (19x25, I think?) and top has gone back one size as he's added brackets to the last tooth on either side so that we can bring the back teeth forward a bit to close...

Re: Cleaning the nance button

I didn't find the nance affected my eating much other than I avoided sticky foods or things that would clump around the roof of my mouth. I can finally suck on sweets again (bad habit) now that it's gone which is great as I'm suffering morning sickness at the moment and a few sweets help! It's great...

Re: Cleaning the nance button

I just got my nance removed today!!! After 4.5 months. I always just brushed it when I cleaned the roof of my mouth with my electric toothbrush. My dentist and ortho both said that it was always clean when they saw it and I never had any irritation after the first couple of weeks. Tried to floss und...

adjustment #2

Had my second adjustment appointment today - at just shy of 5 months braced (21 weeks yesterday). The plan had been to change my wires again today (i'm in 19s at the moment) but after some trying it was a bit of a push to do so so the current wires are staying put for another 6 weeks. The next wires...

Re: new addition!

Oh, kennyandrew85, I am in the UK and thought about that right away :? !! But I don't think the NHS would have put me forward for braces anyway as there were no major issues other than cosmetic and my self-consciousness about that.

new addition!

I've been fully braced for 15 weeks and have just found out that I'm 7 weeks pregnant! Have only told my husband, one close friend and now all of you!!! I set myself a (planned) childbearing limit of age 35 so now that I'm 34 we thought we'd go for it! We already have a beautiful 5 year old boy and ...

Re: Day 3 with braces - advice please

I feel your pain! I've been in braces with a nance for just over 12 weeks and in the first week or so I was horrified and regretted getting them! Like the previous replies have said, the cheeks and wires digging in is normal and will get better just don't skip the wax! When I first got fitted, one o...

first adjustment at 12 weeks!

Just back from the ortho's office having had my first adjustment. i'm 12 weeks braced today. He put on new wires (top and bottom) which I think are 19/25 (whatever that means!). Feeling much tighter now but not too painful. He said that I would likely have a new set of wires placed at the next appoi...

Good luck for tomorrow!
Sounds like you've thought of this (like me) for a long time and I too am excited about finally doing something - well done for getting around to it sooner than I did (i'm turning 34 on Friday). I'm sure it will be all worth it!

Re: 4 days shy of a month in braces :)

I was filled with regret in the first two weeks (and periodically now!) as well but the time is going by relatively quickly. I've been braced (upper and lower) since 30 October (so 10 weeks yesterday). Seeing progress keeps me going. My first adjustment appointment is on 22 January and I'll be 12 we...
