Self ligating brackets - can't be opened

I've been undergoing orthodontic treatment for a long time now - 4 years so far - and one big problem I'm facing is that the mechanism to open and close the brackets has become jammed up with limestone (or whatever forms on them over time); this makes trips to the orthodontist pretty unpleasant, bec...

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies

6 weeks since surgery for me now - in theory I should now be fully healed and able to chew on what I want, though in reality, I was told by the surgeon that where my jaw was broken on the lower right is very thin (the result of an infection that I didn't get treated many years ago), so I should wait...

Re: Numb upper lip

It'll slowly come back - my lower lip was numb immediately post op, but I had pins and needles very quickly after, and now 5.5 weeks later it's slowly getting better.

Re: 3 days post op upper jaw surgery

You're in the worst phase right now :-( I'm 5 weeks post op, and the first week was pretty damn miserable, but things improved massively for me starting from about 10 days, and the last week and a half life has gone back to normal, pretty much. I'm slowly getting back to being able to chew most food...

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies

Pancakes have been my choice for the past week now, and spaghetti bolognese (with the pasta in very small pieces, so I don't have to chew it). I'm two and a half weeks post surgery now, and have just started to experiment with chewing very soft things, my aim is to eat some bread this week - minus t...

Re: Stitches!

Mine were removed after 8 days, and I was told in the hospital that 7 - 10 days is the normal window for removal.

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies

Well, that was a lot of fun - I'm day 5 post op, and have finally been let home from the hospital. Not much pain to report, I stopped taking anything but ibuprofen on day 2, but the swelling isn't fun! The drooling was quite horrible too - for the first 3 days, any position other than lying on my ba...

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies

Just got back from my preparation visit to the surgeon, and it's all go for the 24th. The upper jaw will be moved 5mm higher and 3mm forward, and the lower jaw will go 5mm back. Having already been through SARPE I've a good idea of what to expect, but I get the feeling that this will also be somewha...

Re: Fall/Early Winter 2016 Surgery Buddies

I'm going in for double jaw surgery on November 24th. It was originally just supposed to be for the lower jaw, to fix an underbite, but as the surgeon at the consultation pointed out, the upper jaw is lopsided, comes forward too much on one side, and needs moving out in another direction that I can'...

Upper and lower jaw surgery - what preparations will my ortho make?

Hi, I've got a date for upper and lower jaw surgery at the end of November to fix an underbite (the surgeon also pointed out that the upper jaw is also tilted a few degrees off in 3 different axis and recommended that I get that fixed at the same time, hence upper jaw surgery is required as well). I...

Re: How often do you brush/floss/rinse in a day?

Brush - x2 (morning and night)
Floss - x1 (try to do it at night, but sometimes in morning)
Rinse - like others, I drink a lot of water throughout the day anyway. I use mouthwash a few times a week.

Re: How long before you saw a change in teeth positions

I started to notice changes in the position of the bottom teeth within the first 2 months and they've improved a lot since then. I noticed a change in my bite very early on - maybe after a week or two. I'm still to see much change with the top teeth though - a small gap has appeared between the fron...
