Re: Has anyone done jaw surgery to correct failed othodontic

I have heard good things about Arnett/Gunson. Do both of you live in the area, or are you flying out there for consolations/surgery? Just about anywhere you go online looking at jaw surgery people talk about them. There's got to be other surgeons that have an appreciation for aesthetics as well as j...

Re: Has anyone done jaw surgery to correct failed othodontic

I attached an x-ray to give a better idea what I'm talking about. My biggest problem right now is finding an orthodontist/surgeon that understands my issues. Most (well the orthodontists I have seen) won't recommend anything to be done because I have occlusion from my previous orthodontic work. It's...

Re: Has anyone done jaw surgery to correct failed othodontic

Before I saw this orthodontist, I was reading about palette expansion in adults - looking for ways to reverse some of the narrowness. That isn't what this orthodontist did though. He simply changed the angle of the teeth (my teeth were angled in fairly substantially). Now they're much closer to str...

Re: Has anyone done jaw surgery to correct failed othodontic

Thanks for the reply. With regards to widening the arch and bringing the teeth forward (I'm assuming some kind of pallet expansion), can that really be done in adults? I have been given conflicting opinions from orthodontists on whether that sort of non-surgical movement is possible/stable. Your tee...

Has anyone done jaw surgery to correct failed othodontics?

I had 4 bicuspid extractions and orthodontic headgear to "fix" a class II jaw when I was a kid. By the time I was 16 I had occlusion, but I had an extremely small jaw, a recessed maxilla in addition to my recessed mandible (obtuse nasolabial angle) and some signs of mid-face deficiency (ba...

I would go with the plastic one.

Re: Lost My retainers :(

That's unfortunate. Being that you have only been out of braces for a short time it is possible your teeth may move a little during those two weeks. I can't think of anything you can do to prevent this, but if they do move it would only be a slight movement that should be easy to correct with anothe...

Jaw problems post braces

Has anyone had jaw problems after having braces? I had braces years ago when I was younger, extractions, and cervical headgear to fix a class 2 malocclusion. I never noticed it right away, but in addition to having an obtuse nasolabial angle and small mouth/jaw, my jaw pops and opens crookedly, it a...

Re: Surgery vs teeth extraction--overbite

I regret having extractions instead of jaw surgery, however my case may be different form yours, and I cannot see your pictures yet. The extractions may be enough. How old are you? I'm assuming your nasolabial angle is acute?

Re: Fixing an issue with a receding lower jaw

I had extractions and the upper jaw moved backward (cervical head gear) to fix an overbite (receded lower jaw) when I was a teenager. I was never given the option for surgery but I really regret having the camouflage treatment as I already have a naturally narrow face with a small jaw and large nose...

Re: Best AESTHETIC surgeons

I'm in the same boat actually. Minor jaw problems (tmj and minor asymmetry) and a underdeveloped profile due improper orthodontic treatment when I was young, but my bite is not off enough to warrant Jaw surgery. Arnett and Gunson come to mind when it comes to aesthetic jaw surgeons, but it's unlikel...
