Re: Post op and struggling hard.
The first week is really hard. The first 4 or 5 days after surgery I literally thought I was going to die. I didn't have any nausea luckily but I was so hungry all the time and I couldn't imagine how I was going to get enough calories when it was so hard to eat anything. I couldn't breath through my...

Re: Five weeks post op and dissappointed
5 weeks is still really early in the process. I had a similar problem after I had my surgery of not being able to close my lips and I was very disappointed in the cosmetic results. I am now 17 weeks post-op and I am finally starting to like how I look. I am not sure when exactly but at some point I ...

Re: Post surgery and I look almost the same
I just wanted to add that I did have the genioplasty and I still can't tell much difference so I think without it there would have been literally no difference at all.

Re: Post surgery and I look almost the same
I am 9 weeks post op now and I had the same experience with surgery. I feel like my middle face sticks out to much although it is getting better now that the swelling has gone down more. The chin looks a little better but it isn't that much different. I would be really upset that I had this surgery ...

Re: Depression and Loss of Energy after Surgery
Thanks for the update. It gives me hope that 6 months from now everything will be okay. I just had the surgery a little over a week ago and things are a million times better already than the 3-4 days after surgery but it is still kind of scary. My jaw muscles feel really tight and sore and one side ...

Re: Numb tongue after lower jaw surgery
It definitely sounds like something to talk to your surgeon about. They told me the same thing that I might have numbness for up to 6 months after surgery. My surgeon also told me up to 20% of people who have lower jaw surgery have some permanent numbness in their lower lip. It sounds like the numbn...

Re: Has anyone here appealed the allowable amount with Anthe
Wow that is ridiculous. I guess that is why they don't have any surgeons in network. What surgeon would agree to do a complicated surgery for $645? I am still waiting to find out how much my insurance will reimburse me. No one could seem to figure out what the allowed amount was for the procedures I...

Re: Jaw Surgery Insurance?
I'm not sure of all the details. I'll see if I can talk to her next week and find out more. I know one thing she did was sent an image of my airway and emphasized how small it is.Nate92 wrote:
Hey azjaw: Thanks for the advice. Do you know how your surgeon finally got it approved? What changed?

Re: Double Jaw Surgery-- Not Sure if I want to Do It.
Wow I'm glad you are getting started. I am having my surgery tomorrow and feeling really nervous so I came on this board to try and reassure myself it will be okay. I went back and forth of whether to do it or not so many times. I started braces and was sure I wanted it but when my insurance rejecte...

Re: Orthognathic Surgery outside the US
I have considered going to Costa Rica to have it done by Dr. Oscar Reiche. I sent him an email and got a response that it would cost about $16,000. Does that $16,000 include hospital fees and so on? Yes that included the hospital fees and also the cost of a week in a recovery facility. It was basic...

Re: Jaw Surgery Insurance?
I am having the same kind of surgery on Monday. It sounds like you might have a good chance of getting it approved. I have heard BCBS is one company that does approve it pretty often. I have Aetna and they did finally approve me. I would suggest being sure to find a surgeon who does a lot of this ki...

Re: Orthognathic Surgery outside the US
Who in Belgium gave you that quote? The only one in Belgium I know of is Maurice Mommaerts and his price was around 5000 Euros the last time I checked. Yes it was Maurice Mommaerts. The reason I contacted him was I had seen on this and other forums that his prices were reasonable so I was pretty di...

Re: Is this a bad result?
I couldn't see the pictures last night when I posted, probably because I was a new member, so I just wanted to post again and say I think you look very pretty. There is absolutely no reason that someone who looks like you cannot get a job so just get out there and do it. Looks matter a little bit bu...

Re: Is this a bad result?
Your surgeon should have told you there was the possibility you could like your appearance after the surgery less than before. My surgeon told me it is actually fairly common. It is really hard to not be happy with how you look. I have a lot of those issues myself. I am trying to decide if it is wor...

Re: Braces go on this week, here we go!
My orthodontist told me 6-18 months before I would be ready. I decided to hope it would be 6 months and go ahead with it. It has already been almost 12 months and it looks like it will probably end up being 18 months total before I am ready. It is a long process but having braces really isn't that b...
